Sea of Stars

Sea of Stars, Sabotage, 2023

  1. Release date: August 29
  2. Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch
  3. Our score: 8.5/10

Sea of Stars was released on a date that any publisher familiar with the industry would avoid – between the premieres of Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield – two games in the pool of the most anticipated, most time-consuming titles to finish. On top of that, it entered the market without a major marketing campaign. And yet, it was noticed and is cited by many as an RPG worthy of a place among the two AAA hits mentioned.

Sea of Stars is a prequel to The Messenger and takes us back to the times of pixel art RPGs from the era of 8- and 16-bit games. Controlling Children of the Solstice, we embark on an "epic" journey to defeat the villainous Fleshmancer. This title features many elements known from the jRPG genre. It's a very light and painless introduction to Japanese-style games by improving or simplifying many mechanics. At the same time, fans of the genre and retro style shouldn't be disappointed because Sea of Stars is simply a great title regardless of the convention adopted.
