First Person Shooters

America's Army: Proving Grounds

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Developer: U.S. Army
  2. Genre: tactical action game

America's Army: Proving Grounds is the latest installment in the popular tactical shooter series. All were developed as marketing tools to encourage Americans to join the military. A positive side effect of this is that players from all over the world can enjoy refined network FPS for free in pretty good graphics.

The game emphasizes realistic gameplay and forces close cooperation with teammates. It is not a forgiving title, but the effort put into it rewards great satisfaction when victorious. In addition, the authors also prepared smaller and fast clashes, which are ideal as training for rookies before large skirmishes with dozens of players running around the map. An additional advantage is lots of content, including a large selection of maps, which also included refreshed versions of the best levels from America's Army 2.

Project Reality

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Creator: Project Reality Team
  2. Genre: tactical action game

Project Reality is another title on this list which started as a mod before becoming a stand-alone production. Over the years, it was developed as a modification to Battlefield 2. While the core game offered a strongly loose approach to the themes of contemporary conflicts, so PR focuses on realism, tactical depth, and forcing close cooperation between squad members.

The end-result is exquisite, and today Project Reality is one of the best tactical shooters on the market. In addition, thanks to many years of development, it is a very content-rich title, offering dozens of complex maps.

At the moment, the developers are mainly working on their commercial game, Squad, but Project Reality still has an extensive player base, mainly thanks to releasing it as an independent production.

Version v1.6.3

Development of the game continues. In September 2020, there was another update, which included two new maps, new vehicles, and an increased limit on players who can board vehicles at the same time. As you can see, despite the passage of years, some developers remain tireless.

S. T. A. L. K. E. R. - Lost Alpha

IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Developer: Dezowave
  2. Genre: open-world FPS

S. T. A. L. K. E. R. - Lost Alpha is a first-person shooter game designed to recreate the world of the first installment of the S. T. A. L. K. E. R. series that we saw when the project was still in alpha phase.

This is not a simple remake of Shadow of Chernobyl. Instead, we have a new map, plot, and substantial set of new, original missions. Excellent gameplay mechanisms are back in action, though a number of new elements have been added, such as an improved physical engine and the option to drive cars.

So, in practice, we just got a new full installment of the series for free. It's not exactly polished, but commercial parts also weren't. Similar to them, S. T. A. L. K. E. R. "Lost Alpha is a big, ambitious and addictive game that can be enjoyed for several hours.
