Trial by Fire is a direct continuation of the 1989 Quest for Glory adventure. After leaving Spielburg on board a flying carpet, we go with three new friends to the desert city of Shapeir. It soon turns out that the mythical land, like the "Fairy Tale of a Thousand and One Night", has its own problems, which, as it usually happens, will require your intervention.
Similar to what happened in the original, we are now dealing with a hybrid adventure game and RPG. Again we can choose from three professions, which of course translates directly into the game: e.g. a thief may encounter in the game locations and riddles, inaccessible for other classes. The range of basic skills remained unchanged, however, unique character traits have been added, which we acquire during the game. In the game there is also an opportunity to become a paladin, but this applies only to the profession of a warrior. One of its conditions is the transfer of characters from the first part of the game, which is worth doing regardless of whether we intend to become a law-abiding knight or not. A very strong point of the game is the scenario, although compared to the original may seem too linear, the puzzles and problems we will have to deal with are much easier.
In terms of graphics, the game does not knock on our knees, but 16-colored VGA still looks better than in the case of the first Quest for Glory. All the elements are definitely more elaborate and, despite the archaic image today, they still evoke disillusionment. Trial by Fire is the last game in the Quest for Glory series with a text interface and this is, in my opinion, the weakest part of the program. The dictionary and the range of words used is quite poor and more experienced linguistically players may have problems with the correct expression of the actions taken. Remember, in simplicity, strength!
