King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella Description
King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella is the fourth installment in the King’s Quest series. This time around, we assume the role of a princess Rosella, the daughter of king Graham and his wife Valanice, who searches for a magical cure for her dying father. Reaching the mysterious land of Tamir, she meets a group of dwarves who will help her to fight a dangerous beast called Lolotte that holds the artifact she is after.
The Perils of Rosella is the first game in the series that supports a computer mouse. We still control the protagonist with cursor keys, but we no longer have to manually type in any commands. Instead, we simply click on a spot or an object and select the desired option from a menu that appears on the screen.
In the game, we solve all sorts of puzzles using the equipment we find. Sometimes we have to open a door, sometimes to escape a guarded room and sometimes to defeat a monster with some clever ruse.
During our journey, we traverse vast swamps, forests and underground caverns, among other things. All of this is still presented in 16 colors. Another big change that The Perils of Rosella brought to the series is a MIDI soundtrack that introduces dark atmosphere to the game.
