Location division
The game world is not fully open. Instead, it's been divided into smaller parts that you can move between. During the day you can visit up to one place.
To select the location, you use the binoculars you can find on a table in the hideout - after interacting with them, you will see a panorama with places you have to visit. You will find there basic information about the tasks that you must complete in a particular place.
In addition to selecting a specific location, you can also assign a companion to another quest. Thanks to this, you are able to perform several tasks in one day. While selecting the tasks, you will find out what is the probability of the mission's success. This option is best used for obtaining supplies.
Moving between locations
When you leave the base, the loading screen will automatically turn on, and you have to wait until the site is loaded. After that, you will automatically move to the desired location.
Staying in a particular place, you need a portal gun powered by the titular crystal. Thanks to it, you will be able to return to the base. In addition, in case of a difficult fight with an enemy, you can use it to escape. This tool can be activated at any time - just select it from the quick-access bar.
Exploration
When you get to a specific location, it is important to move with the Geiger counter. There are points around the map where radiation levels are high. Staying near them for too long will negatively affect the health of the character. Therefore, you have to monitor the level of contamination constantly.
In addition, you can examine the area using the counter, which will allow you to locate various raw materials easily. Thanks to this, you will be able to get rations and resources for expanding the base.
The map of a given place is also important. It indicates the current mission objective and points worth visiting in the area. This will help you determine where you need to go and how to get there. A compass in the top corner of the screen has also been added for easier navigation. It helps you to travel in the right direction.
While exploring a given area, you have to be careful of your opponents. You'll find them mostly around built-up areas. Therefore, whenever you find yourself near the buildings, you need stay alert. A good option is to crouch in the tall grass. You'll minimize the risk of detection.
