Last update: 02 July 2019

The whole garage in Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 is filled with various equipment that you can use. This chapter provides information about the workshop equipment used during the repairs and modifications of vehicles. The game shows a short tutorial every time you use a new piece of equipment. However, if you forgot or wanted to learn more about the functionality and operation of a specific device, you can check this information below.

Computer

You can find computers in many places in the workshop. Their only role is to buy stuff off the internet. Later in the game it loses value because the experience points will allow you to buy a tablet, which can be summoned up by pressing "T".

Radio

There are a few different radio stations, offering different music genres

The radio on your desk allows you to browse radio stations with different music genres. You can make your own playlist as well.

Toolbox

You guessed it - that's a toolbox

Along with progression in the game, you get experience points. Here you can use it for new upgrades for the workshop or your character. There are many toolboxes such as this one all around the place - they all work in the same way.

Hydraulic ramp

You can use it to raise the car and gain access to the chassis and the bottom of the engine. Use the panel next to the machine to lift the car. To raise it above your own height, use the panel twice.

Oil Drain

A drain for oil

It's used to magazine oil drained from an engine. Spilling oil (by dismantling the oil pan before draining the oil) means a penalty of 100$ for cleaning. To drain oil, place a car high on the ramp, and from the drain menu chose where you want to place it. After bringing up the menu again, simply click Use.

Wheel balancer / tire changer

Wheel balancer - for balancing wheels.

This little fella can help you to take a tire off a rim or balance a wheel. Every wheel has to be balanced before being mounted on a car. Wheels that aren't balanced are marked with an icon visible in the bottom right corner. In order to repair a rim, you have to take the tire off. Remember that the dimensions of tires and rims have to correspond.

Spring puller

Spring puller

If you want to get about repairing the suspension strut, you have to use the spring puller. There are three elements of a strut: dampener or absorber, the spring and the cap. Sometimes only one of these parts has to be replaced - disassemble the strut and reassemble with new parts.

Main entrance / Map

Use the gate to get out of the workshop and go for a test drive, to the junkyard or to a showroom. To be able to enter a racetrack or a test drive, you need to have a working car.

Test track

Just as the Test Path, the track allows you to examine the condition of the suspension, the breaking and the steering mechanisms. It takes some time, but it allows you to take a ride in your car and is often required as the final stage of renovation.

Test Path

Test path

Unlocked with first garage upgrade. If you want to learn what's exactly wrong with the suspension or the breaking mechanism, use the test path. Inspecting the car on a test path doesn't stress the same parts as a test drive - to be really certain, try them both. The entrance to the path is next to the workbench. To bring a car here choose the test path as a destination when moving from the context menu (same as for the hydraulic ramp).

Workbench

Repair bench

Unlocked with first garage upgrade. This beauty is used to repair certain parts of a car, which can save a lot of money. Develop your repair skills in order to be able to repair more parts with increased efficiency and lower chances of failure. Repairing parts is much more economically viable than buying new ones. The last tier of repair skills allows you to repair the body.

Parking

Garage level 2 required. It's for your own cars and for those, for which you don't have enough room in the garage. To get to the parking, use the blue door next to the tire changer.

Parts warehouse

Garage level 2 required. The dismantled parts don't necessarily have to go to the junkyard. When you get some experience, you will be able to repair and mount some of them in your cars, instead of buying new parts. Here, you can also buy elements that you've acquired accidentally - you never know what'll come in handy.

Engine Crane

Engine Crane

Garage level 3 required. This thing allows you to remove or insert an engine into a car. When you take an engine out, you can mount it on the engine stand. To do that, place the crane near the chosen car, and choose "Pull out" from the context menu. In some cars - not all - you will have to remove the gearbox first. If the gearbox is small enough it won't have to be removed, which will also let you leave the drive axels in their place. After removing it, the engine as a whole is moved to your inventory. You can sell it, use it in another car, or transfer to the Engine Stand.

Engine Stand

Engine Stand

Garage level 3 required. In order to do some more advanced repairs on the engine, you will need an engine stand. After placing the engine on it, you can easily rotate the engine. After taking it off, the engine will be moved to your inventory. Repairing an engine on the stand is much more convenient: you don't have to lift the car all the time and the access to the whole engine is very easy. After removing an engine from a car, the car can be moved to the parking lot to save space.

Battery Charger

Battery Charger

Garage level 3 required. You can use it to charge car batteries. Any car battery that you find in the game can be charged here, making it 100% efficient, so you should collect the batteries from junkyards and barns.

Garage level 3 required. You can repair the car's body for 1,000$. However, you can only work with the chassis - not elements such as doors or hoods. If you're restoring a car, welding is totally optional.
