War Pigeons | Game modes Battlefield 1 Guide
Last update: 01 February 2017
This mode in its current form is brand new to the Battlefield series. The mechanics alone are very similar to the Obliteration mode from BF4. The goal of both teams is to send a message via a pigeon.
The pigeon is placed randomly on the map and can be carried by a player from any team. It is then the task of the team to protect the player with the pigeon. On the screen of that player, under the timer, there is a pigeon symbol, and when the blue border makes a full circle, he can let the pigeon loose. The enemies can then shoot the pigeon down while it is flying, and the team that sent it will not receive a point, which is why the player who is sending the message has to be as far away from hostiles as possible.
The players can respawn on teammates or in random locations on the map.
A team scores a point if the pigeon manages to fly away. The game ends when a team scores three points, or after 20 minutes, in which case the team with an advantage in points will win.
Tips
If you are carrying the pigeon, find a safe position, preferably near the borders of the map. Hide there and do not move from that spot. This will allow you to send the message much faster. Trust your teammates to cover and protect you.
If the enemy successfully sends a message, an artillery barrage will shortly follow. Take cover inside a building for a few moments, and if you do not survive, do not respawn, until the strike has ended.
Always make sure to be in a full squad. This will allow you to respawn close to the battlefield. If you do not have a squad, you have to rely on the random respawn points. In practice, these points will usually be far away from the pigeon, which will result in you wasting time on getting back into the thick of it.
Use elite classes, placed around the map. They are very powerful and can be useful both when trying to recapture the pigeon and while defending a teammate, who is already carrying it.
