The gameplay's mechanics Batman: The Telltale Series Guide
Last update: 17 October 2016
Batman from Telltale Games studio is above all, a plot-based game, so the vast majority of interactions with the environment takes place through choosing the right dialogue option. Nevertheless, during the course of the gameplay, action scenes appear, which require interaction through using specific button, combination of buttons or the mouse button. The complete controls can be found in the dedicated chapter, while below you can find some useful information for players, for whom Batman is the first game from Telltale Games studio.
Dialogues
The major way to interact with other characters. The choice of the adequate answer results in various consequences. It is obvious, that an independent character will respond for every answer chosen by us, fitting to the course of the conversation, but there are situations, where the individual moments are more important than others. Aside from the adequate attitude towards the protagonist, some answers can be remembered by the adversaries and they can refer to them in the further parts of the episode or next episodes.
Additionally, in some cases, we are left with a major choice, which can influence the events in the further parts of the game. In such cases, most of the time we have more time to decide, but in those cases it is better to stop the game, and think about the eventual consequences.
Quick Time Events
The actions which require a quick interaction using a button, or a set of buttons seen on the screen. Aside from the standard button icons, arrows pointing in the various directions can appear, which require the usage of (W/S/A/D) buttons.
We can divide them into three groups:
Movement
The single use of the buttons, with a quite amount of time to react. If we won't be able to use the button, the game will use an additional solution, which result in similar effect as our interaction.
Equipment usage
The actions using the special equipment require a quick reaction from us. In the specified part of the screen, a circle will appear, on which we need to point the cursor and use the left mouse button. Similarly to the previous instance, if we delay the action, the game will choose an optimal solution.
Combat
In this case, the speed of action is the most important. The information concerning the buttons, which need to be pressed, appear very quickly, and has to be completed in the same manner. Delaying to proceed with the action will lead to prolonging the fight or a negative result.
In this case, the Batman's symbol seen in the bottom left corner is the most important. While completing the correct combinations of the keys, the symbol will start to fill with colour. Once it's filled completely, you can perform an action which will knock out your enemy, by pressing A + D buttons at the same time.
Exploration of the surroundings
While completing the puzzles, the game allows us to move the character in a limited way. On the screen, you will notice circles symbolizing the places which need to be investigated.
Operating is similar to using the special equipment. We have to point the cursor to one of the circles and use the LMB. Then, the object which we have chosen will be shown in various ways. Most of the time, we will watch a short scene, which allows us to get to know our surroundings, but it can also be a passageway to next interactive area.
During such scenes, we control the character through using W/S/A/D keys.
