ACNH: Fish - how to catch? Animal Crossing guide, tips
Last update: 12 November 2021
This part of the guide explains how to catch fish in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Fishing in Animal Crossing is reduced to a simple mini-game that tests the player's dexterity. First you must have a fishing rod. Then find the fish - you will notice its shadow in the water.
The first task is to throw the bait correctly. You should do it in front of your target (the wider end is the front) so that the fish can see it. Sometimes you might throw the bait too close to the fish or even behind it. It won't see it and you will have to try again. By trial and error technique you will quickly learn how to cast the bait effectively.
When the fish notices the bait, a kind of mini-game will start. The fish might try catching the bait up to five times. When it does, you must quickly press the A button. If you do it too quickly, when the fish is only pretending to catch the bait, your victim will run away. If you do it too late, it will also flee. You must focus and wait for the right time, when the float gets underwater. Once that happens, you will also hear a louder splash.
And that is all - fishing isn't too complex. Both small and large fish can be captured in same way.
Fish Bait can be helpful when fishing. You can craft it from manila clm that can be dug up on the beach. How does it work? When you stand next to a river or an ocean, open the equipment and use a bait. Your protagonist will scatter the bait into the water and soon some fish will appear. You have to catch it the normal way. The baits make fishing faster (excluding the time needed for actual catching the specimens), but they don't make it easier.
