Character development example | How to create and develop a character Underrail Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
With all the knowledge about statistics, abilities and feats, it is time to create your own character! Below, you will find an example of a hero, which will give you some information on how to customize them. Remember, there are plenty of combinations available in UnderRail and only you decide who your character's gonna be.
Statistics
As you can see on the screenshot above, our character will specialize in using psi, because the most points were invested in Will and Intelligence. What's more, Intelligence will help us when talking to NPCs. The rest of the points were invested in Strength, which will allow the hero to carry more equipment and deal more damage in melee combat when he runs out of psi or when the enemy gets close.
Skills
Considering the statistics that we chose, skill points were distributed in the following manner:
Melee - 15 points
Because we invested a few points in Strength, the hero will surely be using melee weapons. This skill will increase his hit chance and allow him to use heavier weapons that deals more damage. Strength also reduces the chance of being hit by an enemy.
Hacking - 15 points
In the world of UnderRail, there are a lot of electronical devices and the ability to hack will allow you to open secured objects like containers, doors, etc. This skill will also allow you to take control over turrets, cameras or computers.
Lockpicking - 15 points
Everyone gets annoyed when they can't get into a particular room or open a chest were they would surely find something valuable. Thanks to this skill, you will be able to open locks using lockpicks.
Mechanics - 15 points
As it was mentioned earlier, some points were invested in Strength, which will allow the hero to wear heavy armor. Mechanics will enable him to craft better armors, which will increase his protection
Thought Control, Psychokinesis, Metathermics - 15 points each
At the beginning of the character creation process, we defined the hero as a mage, so some points have to be invested in psi skills in order fort the hero to use more powerful spells.
Mercantile
Negotiating better prices from merchants or receiving extra rewards for quests will surely improve the character's development. This is a valuable skill in this world, were there's a shortage of every kind of goods.
Feats
Opportunist
During the gameplay, you will always try to find the best solution to a situation and thanks to Opportunist feat, you will be able to deal increased damage (unarmed or using melee weapons) to targets whose movement is limited by negative status effects. The hero that we are creating will be using psi abilities that provide such effects, so this is a logical choice.
Snooping
In games like this, you always try to look for hidden treasures. This feat will allow you to notice things that others would not see. Sometimes you will find a hidden passage and sometimes a chest with valuable items.
Summary
A character built this way will be able to use psi abilities that deal a lot of damage and provide negative status effects on the target. If need be, the hero will hold his ground in a melee fight. Thanks to increased Strength, he will be able to carry more equipment and use better armor that will increase his protection. Moreover, he will be able to negotiate better prices from merchants and influence NPCs so that he can receive extra rewards for quests (for example two items instead of one). Locked chests or rooms (both mechanically or electronically) will not be a barrier, because the hero is able to hack and to use lockpicks.
