How to find treasure maps in Red Dead Online? Red Dead Online Guide and Tips
Last update: 05 December 2018
You get your first treasure map during the prologue of Red Dead Online. This is just the beginning - the game has more treasure maps to collect and treasures to find. This page contains the most important information that will help you find treasure maps.
How to get treasure maps?
There are two main methods of finding treasure maps. The first is to reach higher ranks. After reaching rank 10, you will start getting new treasure maps every 5 ranks (15th, 20th, 25th rank etc.).
Another way of getting treasure maps is to attack bandit hideouts (marked with a red mark and a skull). Kill all enemies inside a camp and defeat their leader - decide whether you want to kill that person or let them live. This choice doesn't matter - a treasure map is either on a leader's corpse or inside one of the chests.
Remember - treasure maps aren't always in bandit camps. It is possible that you won't find anything.
How to use a treasure map?
Using a treasure map works in the same way as it did during the prologue. Open your inventory, find and select a map you want to use - the game will automatically show you the location of the related treasure chest. Reach that location and activate Dead Eye - this will help you find the chest.
Rewards in treasure chests
Chests usually contain about 50 gold nuggets, around $100-200, and a few items such as jewelry etc. Treasure hunting is a good way of increasing your character's wealth.
Remember - going to a chest without having the right map won't give you any rewards. You can't find treasures on the Internet and go to their locations. You need to own the right map first - keep joining to new Free roam sessions and look for bandit camps. Check the map and see whether a new bandit camp has been added to it or not.
