How to play Outward without losing your mind? Outward Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 08 April 2019
Outward is an interesting production, which, however, is riddled with bugs. Most of them, unfortunately, is not amusing, but rather complicates the game or even makes it impossible to play. Have you noticed things missing from your inventory, or maybe you cannot get to some point, because you are transferred over to another place? Or, like me, you got quests from another faction and you are not able to complete them? In that case, this chapter is perfect for you. Together, we will try to survive in this fantasy world full of magic, bugs and bloodthirsty monsters.

Outward's controls are not intuitive. Before you go to the first exciting battle, hide in the apartment and carefully check the controls. It won't hurt, and you'll save yourself some nerves.
Always carry healing potions
Healing in Outward is not easy. You can quickly lose all your health points or get infected with some disease. To protect yourself from sudden death, carry bandages and healing potions. You can buy these from merchants or make your own.
Bandages - remove bleeding hero and slowly restore health.
Potion - the Life Potion immediately recovers all your HP.
Food - some foods (such as Luxe Lichette) restore a large amount of health.
Don't change locations too early
The first land (Chersonese) is an ideal environment for new players. Monsters there are quite weak, and in addition, you can find there a lot of interesting items.
Explore this place thoroughly, collect all the items and get as much cash as possible. Only when you've completed most (ideally all) activities there, go on a further expedition.
Money is the meaning of your life
Maybe you hate consumerism, but in Outward, you can't do anything without money. It will be useful to prepare your hero for expeditions and to carry out missions and craft new equipment.
If you want to learn how to make money, go to the section entitled "How to earn the 150 silver for the home?" in our guide.
If you play on PC, cancel the save
Since Outward does not allow saving game manually, you need to rely on save games created by the game itself. It's very annoying sometimes because some of the issues preventing you from completing missions aren't your fault and there's no way to revert them. However, on the PC you can delete one of the savegames, which allows you to go back to previous saves.
If you want to know how to load a different save game, go to "How to load game saves?" in our guide.
Explore the first location thoroughly
In Chersonese, you will find a lot of interesting items, places, and opponents. You can spend a dozen or even a few dozen hours here. This is a very friendly place for beginners. You can get a lot of money here, train the hero and perform several side missions. Explore this place 100% to learn the mechanics of the game and get as much experience as possible.
Take breaks from the game
If you start to feel physical or mental discomfort when playing - take at least a twenty-minute break, stretch or go for a walk. It will definitely increase both your performance and pleasure derived from playing. If you keep struggling with the cumbersome game mechanics for too long, you can really spoil your own mood, which will take away any pleasure of playing.
You're a hero for us anyway, no need proving this!
If you don't have to, don't go looking for a fight. Monsters in Outward are not clever, but their attacks are very strong. Sometimes, it's enough to run past a creature to make it start chasing you until you're dead.
Train when and where you only can
To develop your character, you need training. You will meet the trainers in the city. Thanks to them, you will learn new skills or increase your efficiency in battle.
The best defense is often to flee
If you see before you a great, mighty adversary, don't hesitate to escape immediately. Do the same thing if you happen to run out of stamina in battle. Retreat to a safe distance so that your hero can recover. This will increase your chances of winning.
Your weapon is your best friend
From the beginning of the adventure in Outward, make sure to take good care of your weapons. You can find them or buy from merchants.
If you want to know which weapons are best for the start of the game, please refer to the section titled "Best starting weapon?" in our guide.
Don't focus solely on story quests
The plot of Outward is not innovative, nor very impressive. Free exploration of the world is arguably the mainstay of the game. If you give up the plot altogether, you will be able to enjoy the game without worrying about completing impossible quests.
