Think about every blow you make
The most important thing in combat is to be cautious. Remember about blocks and dodges - enemies in this game deal massive damage.
Bow is your best friend
Attacking enemies from a distance to gain a huge advantage. Thanks to a bow, you can kill them without risking your life and you can do that stealthily without alarming other enemies.
Remember, however, that the bow does not deal much damage. Additionally, it is very difficult to aim with it. It's best if you take your first shot from a bow and then attack the enemy with a weapon.
Test the weapons out and choose the one that is perfect for you
Weapons can be one or two-handed. You can use swords, axes, maces, daggers, halberds, staffs, bows, and spears. Your character can also use shields and pistols. Experiment with the large arsenal and find your own play style.
Don't attack if you don't have to
Enemies in Outward have very predictable moves and attacks, making it easy to escape from them even during combat. However, they are strong enough to beat you with one blow. If you know that you do not have a chance to fight a given opponent, do not risk it. Return to him when you strengthen your hero.
Constantly develop your character
Outward allows you to constantly develop your hero. You can improve your combat skills, learn new abilities or learn new spells. You need to constantly develop your character in order for him/her to have a chance to survive.
However, learning new techniques costs a lot of money. So you have to manage your cash rationally so that you don't block yourself from developing.
Invest in new weapons
You can buy various types of weapons from city merchants. Some of them can also be found exploring the game world. Try to check every available weapon so that you always have the best weapon with you.
If you want to learn more about free weapons, you can find information on the "Good weapons for a start" page in our guide.
Observe the level of the stamina
In the lower left corner of the screen there is a yellow indicator, which determines the level of the stamina. It is used for all character actions during combat.
If your level is too low you will not be able to make any movement. As the stamina regenerates on its own, over time you will have to withdraw from combat in order to be able to make any movement.
Remember to take off your backpack
Before each fight, drop your backpack from your shoulders. It makes it much harder for you to move and perform dodges.
Don't worry, however, that you'll lose it (backpack). The location of the backpack is marked on the compass.
Your opponents are very predictable, remember their attacks
Enemies in Outward have a very small range of moves and attacks. Before attacking your opponent, run up to him, let him make a few moves so that you can remember them accurately. This way you will know when to attack. Most enemies are defenseless for a few seconds after their attack. Take advantage of these moments to make the right blows.
