Hazelight is known for their unforgettable cooperation games. While they have only released 2 so far, A Way Out and It Takes Two, both of them were very warmly received by the gaming community. Now, they are spoiling us with yet another title – Split Fiction, which takes an interesting turn, jumping between fantasy and science fiction worlds. However, not everyone is a fan of coop ventures. Such lone wolves might be wondering whether this studio’s new production will feature single player mode. Let’s analyze then what is the possibility of enjoying this game solo, without the help of others.

Single player in Split Fiction explained

We are all different. Some of us are outgoing, thriving in the company of people, withering when lonely, while others can be on the opposite side of the spectrum. There are many of those who enjoy peace and coziness of their own home and having a blast being alone. Sadly, Split Fiction is not crafted for the latter group. Why is it the most probable scenario?

Let’s take a look at the previous games of Hazelight – A Way Out and It Takes Two. While both are critically acclaimed, neither of them allows for solo experience. Since the whole narrative of Split Fiction focuses on two protagonists, which are reliant on each other, solo play would not be feasible.

Of course, having one of the heroines controlled by AI is a possibility, yet that would kill the whole idea of the game. Creating a title with two equally important main characters requires specific storytelling, but also level and mechanics design. Bearing in mind that one of those could be an NPC, would spoil many puzzles and rob the production of its charm.

If you are a person who enjoys their own company a bit more than others, yet would still like to play Split Fiction no matter what, Hazelight usually takes steps that allow only one player to buy the game, and the other to join. So, you can jump on the studio’s official discord server and find people, who would like to share the experience with you. Sometimes, it is good to break our rules and get out of safe zone. Good luck!
