DualSense as Responsive With Cable as Wireless
Thanks to a test preapred by a certain Reddit user, we learned that PS5's DualSense controller has the same latency over cable as it does wirelessly.
- A Reddit user tested the latency of the DualSense controller on PS5;
- The tests suggest that there is no difference between a wireless connection and using a cable.
If you've been wondering whether it's better to use PS5's DualSense controller wirelessly or via a cable, an extensive test by a Reddit user has revealed the answer - it doesn't really matter.
Up until now, there's been a well-founded view that using wireless controllers results in more lag than using them with a cable attached to the console. Admittedly, there have been some exceptions, such as with the DualShock 4, which due to a strange bug had a higher latency on the cable than when connected wirelessly.
With the DualSense and PlayStation 5, the issue has been fixed by Sony and it doesn't really matter whether we use the controller over the cable or wirelessly. Several titles were used for testing - Astro's Playroom, the remaster of Marvel's Spider-Man, Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War and Rocket League. The differences between cable and wireless connectivity are 1-2 ms.
So if you've been using a cable to minimize latency, you may want to change your habit, as there's no benefit to connecting DualSense to the PS5 this way.
As a point of interest, the author also checked to see if the DualShock 4 continues to be plagued by the aforementioned bug on the PS5. It turned out that yes and the connection "over the wire" still has a higher latency.
