Warning, the following text contains a minor spoiler from God of War: Ragnarok.

Despite rumors, the upcoming 20th anniversary of the God of War series is unlikely to include any announcement of a remaster or remake of Kratos' adventures. Nonetheless, this news, which is disappointing for many fans, doesn't mean that the celebration will be bitter. It turns out that Sony has prepared an interesting surprise for fans of the Spartan warrior.

According to a post published on the PlayStation blog, it appears that all owners of God of War: Ragnarok on PC, PS4, and PS5 will receive an update on March 20th, adding the Dark Odyssey package to the 2022 release.

Inspired by the working name of God of War (2005) and the skin that originally appeared in God of War II as a reward for beating the game on God Mode difficulty, we are bringing the classic black and gold theme for the 20th anniversary - as stated in Sony's announcement.

According to the information provided, bonuses inspired by the award given to the second installment players can be looted from "any chest with lost items in the base game or automatically in the Valhalla DLC."

The Dark Odyssey bundle will bring quite a lot of cosmetic items. The basic elements will, of course, include the appearance of Kratos and his armor (breastplate, braces, and belt). Furthermore, the devs have prepared special weapon painting (Leviathan, Blades of Chaos, Draupnir Spear) and a shield.

Kratos's companions will also get something. Both Atreus and Freya will receive special outfit inspired by the award in God of War II.

The announcement mentions that "the weapon appearances are made for the fully upgraded version of each weapon and will only be available for use upon reaching that upgrade." Players will also have the opportunity to edit the looks of the mentioned elements.
