“Never disrespect Gege Akutami again.” Jujutsu Kaisen's alternative ending enraged shonen fans
The alternative ending of Jujutsu Kaisen has angered JJK fans, who have serious allegations to the fan project.
The ending of Jujutsu Kaisen is regarded as controversial. Many fans are not happy with it, some of them even accusing the series' author, Gege Akutami, of rushing the finale of his work. Among the disappointed JJK fans, there is a group of people who decided to present their own version of the manga's ending.
This one, in turn, caused much more outrage than the actual ending of Jujutsu Kaisen. The fan project was not received in the way its authors could have hoped for. Creators of Jujutsu no Kaisen faced criticism from Internet users accusing them of, among other things, that the frames for the new ending are traced from anime, manga and fanart, and that AI assistance was used. The new ending led even to requests from JJK fans to “never disrespect Gege [Akutami] again.”
The fan project, titled Jujutsu no Kaisen, whose action begins after the 236th chapter of the original, according to the creators, is expected to satisfy everyone unlike the version by JJK creator Gege Akutami. The creators described their work as wonderful, and called its release “the biggest event for Jujutsu Kaisen fans.” However, looking at the reception of the first chapter of Jujutsu no Kaisen, one gets the impression that the authors failed to meet the expectations they had inflated.
Internet users are criticizing Jujutsu no Kaisen. Many people have pointed out that frames with an uneven style from the manga are traced from frames from other anime, manga and fanart, and even from official releases of Jujutsu Kaisen. Some examples were mentioned by KamenRainer on X. And other examples of traced frames were shared by tomomoring also on X.
That's not all, however, as KamenRainer also claims that other frames, or more precisely certain elements used in them, were generated with the help of AI, like the airplanes in this example. KamenRainer's assumption most likely stems from the fact that the background of this frame, like many AI-generated images, has lines leading nowhere and random shapes.
The allegations against the fan project are therefore serious. AI in the world of artists is a topic that generates many emotions. AI is seen as a threat to artists' work and the future of the industry due to the development of various kinds of artificial intelligences that operate in the fields of computer graphics, video, etc. As such, the alleged use of artificial intelligence for a project like Jujutsu no Kaisen is causing controversy.
The authors of Jujutsu no Kaisen have not left the accusations unanswered. They published on X the stages of work on one of the frames from their manga, which is supposed to prove that it was not generated with the help of AI, but was created by a human.
And it looks like the negative comments are not discouraging the creators of Jujutsu no Kaisen, who assure that they are additional motivation for them to push forward.
Your negative comments motivate me, as most works like this receive criticism in the first place. Wait for the entire chapter with edited dialogues. Always remember, never judge a book by its cover.
For a project that is supposed to fix what the creators of Jujutsu no Kaisen believe Akutami failed to do, it is also very underdeveloped. Among other things, there are errors in the fan manga. For example, characters who are considered alive in the original Jujutsu Kaisen are dead, such as Kiyotaka Ijichi, who in JJnK appears in a scene from the afterlife, even though he is still alive at the end of JJK, as we see in the final chapters. Readers also pointed out poorly written lines. The most frequently mentioned is the sentence that appears in the narrative box after Sukuna defeats Gojo, which is, “The king of curses drained all his efforts and energy because of his opponent who was very strong.” That's not all, however, because among the shortcomings, attention was also drawn to the fact that the characters behave in ways that are unusual for them, and so the generally calmer and subdued Geto, suddenly began to behave energetically and childishly like Gojo.
The authors of Jujutsu no Kaisen are confident that they will still manage to change the minds of JJK fans about their work, however, the criticism and accusations so far, as can be seen online, have already managed to do serious damage to the opinion about this project. It itself at this point is far from perfect. It's hard to talk here about JJnK really being able to rival or surpass the original. Gege Akutami created a manga that conquered the world. His own style and character, well-written dialogues, dynamic fights, polished artistic side – all this made JJK appreciated. JJnK, on the other hand, remains underdeveloped in many respects, and the suspicion of tracing other people's work and using AI does not work in its favor.
