In a few hours, Metro Awakening will be released on the market, which is a VR spin-off of the hit series of post-apocalyptic FPS games. Plot-wise, it is a prequel – its action takes place in 2028, five years before Artyom's adventure from Metro 2033.The game will be released simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, and Meta devices.

  1. On PS5, of course, it will require PlayStation VR2 goggles.
  2. On PC, devices such as Oculus Rift, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 Family, HTC VIVE, HTC VIVE PRO, HTC VIVE PRO 2, and Valve Index are supported.
  3. The PC version will be sold on Steam, where the game will be unlocked today at 8:00 a.m. PT.
  4. The PC version costs $39.99. In the PlayStation Store, the price is $39.99, and in the Meta Store, it's $53.99 (or $44.99 if you pre-order, so it's worth making the purchase before the release). The higher price in the Meta Store results from the fact that only the more expensive Deluxe edition is available there, at least for now.

Good reviews of Metro Awakening

Many reviews appeared online, and it seems that the release will be a success. According to Metacritic, the PS5 version of Metro Awakening has an average rating of 78%. Below are selected scores:

  1. Push Square - 9/10
  2. TheSixthAxis - 9/10
  3. PlayStation Universe - 8.5/10
  4. COGconnected - 85/100
  5. DualShockers - 8.5/10
  6. GameReactor - 7/10
  7. TheGamer - 3.5/5
  8. GamesRadar+ - 3/5

Most reviewers praise the execution, atmosphere, and interestingly designed missions. The main criticism is the ending of the campaign, which is said to be clearly weaker than the rest of the game. Opinions are divided on the issue of stealth sections.

Before the premiere, fans of the series had some doubts because the game wasn't developed by the 4A Games studio, which had developed the main installments of the series. Metro Awakening was developed by Vertigo Games, known for the Arizona Sunshine series. Based on the first reviews, it seems that the new team has succeeded in creating a VR game that lives up to this brand.
