Baldur's Gate 3 Left Its Mark on Avowed. Obsidian Entertainment RPG Will Reward Us for Curiosity and „Personal Approach”
A senior location designer from Obsidian Entertainment studio explained the philosophy that drove the developers while working on Avowed.
For RPG game fans, Avowed, the latest project of Obsidian Entertainment studio, is shaping up to be the most important release of the first quarter of 2025. Those waiting for this title should be interested in the interview that Berto Ritger, the senior location designer, gave to the Gamesradar service.
The developers' approach to campaign design is reminiscent of what Baldur's Gate 3 offered. As Ritger explains, one of the main charms of RPGs is that they can be full of content that the player may not have come across at all, especially during their first playthrough. As he stated:
I think the core of RPGs that makes them special is missable content, to be honest, and it makes the experience feel so much more personal to how you play the game.
The dev is not only referring to the content that can only be seen as a result of certain decisions in the game. He also refers to elements that we may simply miss, such as hidden locations that only people who enjoy exploring will find.
However, the game will try to signal us when a certain location is worth checking out. As Ritger explains:
We want to draw your attention to things that we want you to engage with. (...) The lighthouse is very tall, and so everybody's going to see a big, tall thing and want to go climb. And so we want to support that as well. And you can do that, and you can jump off into the ocean, if you like.
Avowed is coming to PC, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. The game will be available as part of the Game Pass subscription from the moment of release.
