Collectibles in Mafia 1 Definitive Edition – general information
Collectibles in Mafia Definitive Edition are available throughout the entire game. You will find them in all kinds of locations. Secrets can be found in locations occupied by allies (e.g. Salieri's Bar), locations with opponents, and during free exploration.
The mini-map can help you in finding secrets – they can show up on it after you get close enough to them. Generally, however, try to explore all newly visited locations thoroughly. If it is a location with opponents, you can explore it later, although this creates the risk that you may advance too quickly to the next part of the mission and leave that location prematurely.
The game displays information about every collectible you pick up. You can also find out how many secrets of a particular type you have already managed to find.
All secrets are stored in one of the tabs of the pause menu. You can find out how many pieces you already have in your collection. You can also see these secrets up close. Depending on the type of collectible, you can, for example, enlarge the cover or read an additional description.
Secrets have no practical use – you won't get new equipment nor your character will get stronger. The main reason to get 100% of secrets is to get closer to unlocking the platinum trophy.
Letters or newspapers don't count as secrets. You can find these items on a regular basis as you go through the game. By interacting with them, you can, for example, read a document or view the front page of a newspaper. However, these objects won't be added to the collection.
Pulps
Pulps are the first category of collectibles in Mafia 1 Definitive Edition. It is also the largest category of secrets, as they are divided into four groups:
- Dime Detective Magazine
- Black Mask
- Super Science Stories
- Terror Tales
Each of the 4 groups has 20 magazines. There is a total of 80 magazines.
Comics
Gangsters Monthly comics is the second category of secrets in Mafia 1 Definitive Edition. You can find a total of 10 comic books.
Cigarette Cards
Cigarette Cards are the third category of secrets in Mafia 1 Definitive Edition. The cards feature some of the most important gangsters from the Prohibition era as well as characters you will encounter in the game. Each card contains a brief description of the character it represents. There are a total of 22 cards.
Post Cards
Greetings From Lost Heaven postcards are the last fourth category of secrets in Mafia 1 Definitive Edition. The postcards feature the most important locations and landmarks from the world map. They also provide clues on where to find hidden cars.
There are five postcards to collect. All postcards can be found inside Lucas Bertone's workshop.
Foxes
Stuffed foxes can be found throughout the game's world. There are 50 foxes to find. The difficulty in finding foxes is that the game does not mark them with any icons on the mini-map.
Hidden Cars
Hidden vehicles are stored in garages located in different parts of the map. Postcards (another category of the in-game secrets) have hints on where to find these bonus vehicles. New vehicles are added to Tommy's garage permanently
In addition, some side missions/challenges in Free Ride mode may also unlock unique new cars and motorcycles.
