Zoo Tycoon 2
Strategy
November 12, 2004

Because the animals one breeds require constant supervision, it is necessary to hire adequately-trained staff - animal trainers, cleaners, security; one also needs to hire entertainers for the guests. Alongside progression, the player gains access to subsequent buildings - apart from enclosures and cages for the animals, one will be constructing mainly entertainment facilities and elements making the zoo more attractive, such as lanterns, benches or stylish bridges. Of course, executing one's plans requires gathering a sufficient amount of money; if things go wrong, the player can additionally increase the income through increasing ticket prices or reducing salaries of the staff. Zoo Tycoon 2 offers several game modes. Apart from the story campaign and free play, one can also check out the Guest Mode, which casts them in the role of a guest at the zoo, or the Keeper Mode, focusing on taking care of the animals and training them. The experience comes with high-quality visuals in full 3D.

In Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species you can also take your visitors on a car ride, allowing them to observe the animals from a closer distance, which increases your income (satisfied visitors pay you more money). There is also an educational center, which allows your visitors to learn additional information about certain species. The expansion requires the core game to run.
The Eldritch Zookeeper
Simulation
cancelled
The Eldritch Zookeeper is a game that combines elements from several video game genres in order to simulate the life of a zoo manager. The player keeps in his zoo creatures taken directly from the literary works of none other than Howard Phillips Lovecraft. New monsters are delivered on a daily basis and it is up to the player to build the appropriate fence or cage, depending on the type of the creature. Moreover, one has to tend to the monster’s needs and make sure they do not escape. The player also has to come up with some additional attractions for the visitors - constant presence of cosmic horrors can drive anyone insane. Simultaneously, all the responsibilities typical for economic strategy games have to be carried out by a single character. This unfortunate man has to do the entire work all by himself - whenever a beast breaks loose due to the character’s mistakes or visitors’ behavior, it is a high priority to keep the protagonist alive, which often leads to fighting the creatures or running away from the threat, exactly as in survival games.
