SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars Description
Spellforce II: Shadow Wars for PC is the second installment of the successful fantasy combination of cRPG and real-time strategy genres, Spellforce: The Order of Dawn. Similarly as in the prequel, in this game, the player completes various quests, develops his protagonist and leads armies of various monsters and creatures to war. The protagonist can be supported by up to five heroes who can be summoned to special monuments that appear later in the game – once the player gains some experience and reaches a certain point of the plot.
Plot
The conflict brought by the magic Shadows caused a split among the Dark Elves. For five years their homeland was in a state of civil war. The rebellion is no longer an internal affair – it reaches far outside the borders of the country. A new power had risen in Eo – a threat, the shadow of which slowly creeps up the furthest reaches of the world and puts the ancient alliances to test. Craig Un’Shallach, the general of the Dark Elves and a member of Dracon, lonely leads his clan against the terrifying Shadows, but the luck begins to turn away from him. When the failure seems to be only a matter of time, his daughter Nightsong escapes and tries to tell the humans about the incoming danger – a pact between the Dark Elves and the army of Shadows led by a lunatic alchemist Sorvina. Nightsong reaches the fortress of Shaikans, the legendary dragon warriors who fear both the forces of Light and Dark. There she surprisingly obtains help of a brave young man who decides to join her and save his family and motherland. However, in order to stop the doom, a powerful army will be needed – the sleeping alliances of the forces of the Light must be rebuilt, which won’t be an easy task for two creatures that are considered the enemies of the Good.
Mechanics
In the majority of the missions the player is leading the forces of one of three factions: Alliance of Light, Hordes of Chaos or Brotherhood of Darkness. The player’s task is to create bases, gather resources and recruit warriors and heroes – mages, necromancers, healers and archers. Spellforce II: Shadow Wars offers more than 100 character abilities, a detailed fantasy world, 36 types of units (twelve per each side of the conflict – among the types there are infantry, cavalry and flying units). The player can control units of 9 races, including humans, elves, dwarves and orcs. In addition to the regular units, each army has units with special abilities (like camouflage and berserk). Spellforce II: Shadow Wars for PC also offers the option to use player’s Avatars in online Player vs. Player, Player vs. AI/Monsters and co-op modes.

Spellforce 2: Demons Of The Past is another standalone expansion to Spellforce 2 – a successful RPG/RTS hybrid, released in 2006. Developed by Mind Over Matter, the expansion continues the threads started in two previous add-ons. The famous Shaikan hero, strives to save the endangered land throughout more than 50 missions set in five locations, on which he or she will face many dangers and new enemies led by a demon called Zazhut. Its only aim is to destroy the whole world of Eo. Because over eight years have passed since the release of the core game, the developers didn’t stop on making new locations and coming up with a new story. The graphics were overhauled, thanks to which the Spellforce universe looks better than ever. Also, a new game mode was added to the, already vastly expanded by the Faith in Destiny expansion, multiplayer mode – namely Survival.

Spellforce 2: Faith in Destiny is the second expansion to the 2006 Spellforce 2, the second installment in the popular series of RTS/RPG games. The expansion was developed by Trine Games, which is also behind expansions to Gothic 3 and The Guild 2. Contrary to the previous add-on, Faith in Destiny is a stand-alone product. The action of this expansion’s campaign happens four years after the events known from Dragon Storm. During that brief period of time, the portals linking different parts of the world of Eo have been completely destroyed, and the task of the player is to learn the reasons behind this event, as well as to save the whole world. During their travels, the players will visit both the well-known locations, as well as some that are completely new. They will also face hordes of enemies. Faith in Destiny also brings a slew of changes in multiplayer, which are meant to diversify the game world. Apart from new maps, the devs have also prepared new game modes, enriched with many elements known from MMO games.
