SpellForce 2: Dragon Storm

SpellForce 2: Dragon Storm for PC is the first official expansion for the popular RPG/RTS production SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars. The expansion adds greatly to the core game, as it features e.g. a new campaign with an interesting plot, a new faction (Shaikan), an expanded quest system and many new multiplayer and Free Game mode maps.

Plot

The story of Dragon Storm is not an optimistic one. The people of the insular country of Eo have a huge problem — the magical portals, the only means of transport between the world’s islands, are weakening and can disappear at any moment, resulting in people eventually starting to die of starvation. All sentient creatures quickly try to reach more fertile territories, mobilize armies and fight each other, leaving only smoke and chaos in their wake. You play as one of the race of Shaikan, relatives of dragons, and your task is to reach the fertile lands. Your journey, however, features events of great importance, such as finding the traces of an important character called the Soulbearer, and encountering mysterious ancient creatures, which were probably responsible for bringing magic into the world. Of course, the game also features dragons, which have a key role in the story of Dragon Storm.

Mechanics

The main story campaign consists of 11 maps, and it continues the plot of Shadow Wars. You traverse both previously unexplored areas as well as places known from the core game, which changed greatly in the meantime. The game features new RPG elements — your companions can now complete tasks, whose completion yields additional abilities. Another novelty is the playable Shaikan race, including the Dragonkin, the Blades, and the powerful Dragon Titan. The new faction has their own skill tree and selective upgrades; depending on the situation, they can use different upgrades, customizing them to suit your strategy. Magic enthusiasts can make use of the expanded spells set and items, which enable you to e.g. summon friendly creatures, which can accompany you. Player vs Player and Free Game modes feature new maps, and two new gameplay mode have been added: King of the Hill for multiplayer and Arena Quest for free play. The latter is particularly interesting, as it allows you to explore maps, in which you can create magical weapons, which you can then use in combat against powerful creatures. The expansion also introduces a multitude of new items — they can enhance your abilities and make the gameplay more interesting. The more ambitious players can also use the expansive crafting system.
