Halo Video Game Series

The best-selling series of first-person shooters (FPS) in the atmosphere of space opera. The brand is in the hands of Microsoft, for which games in the series Halo are among the most important items for Xbox family consoles.

The series debuted in 2001 with the game Halo: Combat Evolved, developed by the Bungie studio as one of the launch titles for the Xbox console entering the market. The production turned out to be a huge hit, which resulted in a conversion to PC (2003), as well as a sequel - Halo. Halo 2 released in 2004 for the Xbox platform, and in 2007 for PC. From Halo 3 (Xbox 360, 2007) the series became an "exclusive" of Xbox-branded consoles for many years. With the departure of the Bungie studio from under the wings of Microsoft, further development of the series was entrusted to the 343 Industries team. The new studio began its adventure with the series with the release in 2011 for the Xbox 360 of a remake of the first part of the series, called Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. The developers then launched the next trilogy, when in 2012 players were hit with Halo 4 (only on the Xbox 360 platform). In 2015, the game was released on XONE Halo 5: Guardians; it was the first full-fledged installment in which the role of the main playable character did not fall to Master Chief. The hero, however, regained his protagonist status in the 2021-released Halo Infinite.

A free tool for the owners of the PC edition of Halo 5: Guardians, acting both as map editor and a way to play fan made levels. Initially, it has been the work of the team at 343 Industries and was supposed to be a PC version of the popular Forge mode, known from the main entries in the Halo series. Additionally, the players could create their own maps or game modes, than use them in Halo 5 on consoles. Those levels can be created from scratch or by modifying sandbox maps prepared by the developers. However, the first huge update for Halo 5: Forge brought the option of testing player creations, making it a full-scale multiplayer shooter, acting as a substitute of the multiplayer mode in Halo 5, offering custom matches for up to 16 players.

The fifth major installment in a bestselling science fiction FPS game franchise, whose consecutive editions were exclusively released for different generations of Microsoft consoles. This is the first iteration dedicated to Xbox One, developed by 343 Industries - the studio responsible for the previous installment as well as a low-budget production Halo: Spartan Assault. In terms of the plot, this new title is a sequel to the previous game, and follows the events of Halo 4. The key to winning against a new, emerging threat to the universe, may lay in the presumably lost AI called Cortana - main hero’s former companion. John-117, commonly known as Master Chief, together with his team forsake their military duties to find her. The narrative alternates between him and the second playable protagonist - Spartan Jameson Locke - pursuing him. Halo 5: Guardians is powered by a new graphics engine and, as always, offers expansive multiplayer options, including a new, online campaign co-op mode, enriched with social features.
