August 30, 2017

Developed by an independent studio called Exor, X-Morph: Defense is an original twin-stick shooter with tower defense elements. The game shows an unpleasant vision of the future, in which the Earth has fallen victim to an alien invasion. Instead of defending the Blue Planet, the player assumes control over an Alien ship with an objective to face waves of human adversaries and defend enormous devices extracting resources and altering the Earth’s atmosphere. In X-Morph: Defense, the player observes the action from the top-down perspective, controls the aforementioned spacecraft, and erects defensive structures such as watchtowers - highly effective against particular adversaries. During the combat, the alien ship can assume four different forms, each one designed for dealing with a specific type of threats. To fight the enemies, the player can use the destroyable environment by e.g. collapsing a skyscraper to bar the way. The player can invade the Earth either alone or with another player in the cooperative mode.

Besides, there is always one of a cast of heroes present on the battlefield, who supports your actions and keeps killing approaching enemies. As you play you earn points that you can spend on new defense structures or upgrade the existing ones. As for graphics, Deathtrap works on the same engine that The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing used, and thus looks much like the sformentioned game.

In terms of mechanics we are dealing with a typical representative of the genre, in which our task is to build various defensive structures in order to repel successive waves of enemies. The authors, however, tempted to introduce completely new types of opponents and previously absent defensive towers. A system for improving structures has also been developed, enabling them to be equipped with additional subassemblies. Thanks to the new engine, the graphics of the game have improved significantly, and the maps have become larger and more extensive. The functional level editor prolongs the fun in single and multiplayer mode.
