13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Description
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on PS4 and PSV is a two-dimensional science-fiction RPG, set in contemporary Tokyo. The game was created by the award-winning Vanillaware studio and George Kamitani, a director and illustrator. The team led by Kamitani has a number of highly acclaimed titles such as GrimGrimoire, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown. All of them are characterized by refined and highly-detailed animated two-dimensional graphics design. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was announced in 2015. The title departs from the classic fantasy aesthetics, which was used by all previous works of the studio, in favour of a science-fiction inspired by various mecha anime series.
Plot
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim takes place in contemporary Japan. The heroes of the game are students of one of Tokyo's high schools, who are mysteriously connected with the thirteenth powerful mech that appeared on the streets of the metropolis.
Technical aspects
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim offers a unique graphic design. Similarly to, e.g. Odin Sphere, the action is presented in a similar way to that of the classic platformers or beat 'em ups. Heroes can only move in four directions on two-dimensional space (up, right, left, down). However, thanks to graphical tricks, linear locations have a depth similar to that of production using 2.5D engines.
