The fourth major installment in a series of larg-scale strategy games, which originated in 2002 as a spin-off to the popular Europa Universalis series. Both franchises are consistently developed by Paradox Interactive. The game lets you take the lead of a country from the World War II period and beyond, specifically the years 1936-1948. Your responsibilities involve taking care of international relations and building alliances, but also developing the army, choosing the right strategy, and conducting the military operations. As it was in the previous editions of the series, the game combines faithfully recreated historical events (including authentic leaders, as well as military forces and technologies used by particular countries, along with the possibility of putting the history on a different course. As compared with the previous games, micromanagement was slightly reduced, and the focus shifted to larg-scale strategy. Other additions include the day and night cycle and changing seasons, as well as an option of grouping provinces into regions to facilitate management.

The action takes the player to Scotland of the year 1926, where the hero – David Gordon – conducts an investigation into the circumstances of his father’s suicide. During the adventure, the protagonist discovers details concerning his father, learns of family members he never knew existed, and faces his own nightmares – he is certain that there is a curse on his family, and that eventually he will go insane, just as his predecessors. In Black Mirror, the player travels through depressing locations, chat with NPCs, and solves more or less complicated puzzles – these are similar to those in classic point-n-click adventures. The visions and nightmarish hallucinations play a crucial role in the game – once the hero experiences them, he may learn more about his family house’s past. The amazing visuals feature faint colours which intensify the gloomy atmosphere.

A tactical turn-based RPG developed by the creators of Halfway. The story in Pathway is set in the 1930s and revolves around powerful ancient artifacts. The Nazis search for them, trying to beat the private collectors’ associations to it. The player takes control of a group of independent collectors – Lankford & Co – and attempts to find the ancient relics before they fall in someone else’s hands. The group controlled by the player comprises some eccentric characters, who carry out a number of dangerous missions taking place in the ruins of ancient civilizations, tombs filled with traps and monsters, and even Wehrmacht strongholds. Most of these missions offer players much freedom in the exploration of large locations; however, they also require them to fight many battles using the turn-based combat system. In between the missions, the player gets to the base in which he can manage his team, talk to NPCs and make story-related decisions. The creators of Pathway decided to implement the pixel art style enriched by modern visual effects, such as dynamic lighting.

The game portrays an alternative history of Europe at the turn of the 19th century, in which humanity used their knowledge and means to build powerful walking machines, used not only in battle but also e.g. in agriculture. Thus the gameplay features not only the cavalry, airplanes and prototype tanks, but also rather primitive and awkward mechs, seemingly not of this age. At the same time, the game is firmly grounded in Polish history and references important events such as the Battle of Warsaw.

The levels are now characterized by a high degree of interactivity, as we can use almost any item as a melee or a ranged weapon. As always, the players can switch between the available characters on the fly, or invite a friend to join our session. Aside from Story and Free Play modes, LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues offers an extensive level editor which can also be used to share our works with other players.

A sequel to the well-received grand strategy game set during World War II, developed by Paradox Interactive. Hearts of Iron 2 spans the entire world and requires us to oversee not only military activities but also all kinds of economic, political, and social dependencies. The player can lead any country, including the biggest superpowers of the era, such as Germany, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. Hearts of Iron 2 offers great freedom in preparations for the outbreak of the World War II. The general premise of the gameplay recreates the solutions of the game's predecessor, but the sequel features many novelties, including additional diplomatic and political options (for example, you can check what would happen if Marxist ideas were introduced in Germany), an open negotiation system, trade agreements, or experience acquisition for military units. Historical scenarios that let us see the conflict through the eyes of a famous commander were also enhanced.

A second DLC for the real-time strategy game Hearts of Iron IV. Created by Paradox Development Studio, the Death or Dishonor add-on focuses on four European countries, namely: Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, which after the outbreak of the WWII were caught between the hammer and the anvil – the Third Reich and the USSR. In the expansion, the aforementioned countries receive all new and unique National Focus trees allowing the players to lead the country they choose taking one of the available paths. The four new countries also deliver new events and assets, such as leader portraits, 3D vehicle models, soldier dialogues, and pieces of soundtrack. Also arriving in Death or Dishonor are features like Equipment Conversion (making it possible for the players to upgrade their arsenal by using their older units, or utilizing captured enemy units), and the option to license military technology from other countries or license one’s tech to other governments. Also, the diplomatic features of the game have been developed by fascist countries getting new subject levels like Reichskommissariat, which hold the occupied nations in an iron grip.
