Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace is an adventure based on a board game The Property of Madness, inspired by the work of horror master H.P. Lovecraft. The player controls a group of four occult researchers who try to discover the secrets of a residence controlled by the forces of evil. The game focuses on solving puzzles, and during the game the key role is played by separating the team and switching between characters.
Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace is a PC-based horror adventure game. The title was developed by Luckyhammers, a Canadian studio and is an adaptation of the Mansions of Madness series of board games released by Fantasy Flight Games.
Story
The plot of the game was inspired by the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The action takes place in 1926, in a sleepy American town, whose peace and quiet was destroyed by a series of murders and disappearances. Worse still, there are witnesses claiming that strange monsters were seen in the area. A team of researchers specializing in the occult is sent with the mission of clarifying the case. Their investigation focuses on one residence, which seems to be at the center of recent events.
Mechanics
The game is based on a series of board games, but draws mainly from them the atmosphere and elements of the plot, offering completely different mechanics. While the tabletop prototypes bet on cooperative, strategic gameplay, the PC version of Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace is a single-player adventure game.
The four heroes explore a residence full of monsters and traps. While playing, we search locations and solve puzzles. The player has the ability to split the group and freely switch between characters. This is useful as each researcher has unique abilities and features, and their proper use is often the key to defeating puzzles.
Technical aspects
Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace offers fully three-dimensional, slightly stylized visuals that fit well with the character of the story.
