Curious Expedition 2 Description
Curious Expedition 2 is the second installment in the adventure roguelike series created by Maschinen-Mensch studio, in which players off on an expedition to the unknown territories full of mysteries and dangers.
Plot
The story takes place in the 19th century. Once again, players are at the head of the legendary Explorers' Club, whose members are eminent personalities known to us from the pages of history. The objective of the club is to organize expeditions to discover unknown regions and thus gain wealth and fame. As one's reputation grows, the main protagonist gains access to internal circles of mysterious organizations, which results in gaining special benefits and the opportunity to travel to more and more exotic regions of the world.
Mechanics
In Curious Expedition 2 , players travel through procedurally generated maps shown from the top-down perspective. They differ from each other in terms of type of terrain, population, opponents, and challenges, which in combination with the randomness of the world, give a significant sense of rivalry. Upon reaching an interesting place, the game shows players animated maps taken straight from 2D adventure games, which players can explore by making story-related choices. Players are bound to encounter mysterious buildings, mystical ruins, and other locations where wealth and glory awaits. One has to mindful of traps and deadly curses on the way to the precious treasure.
First of all, however, players need to plan their project in the best possible way. A properly equipped expedition increases the chances of survival during an expedition full of unexpected situations and threats. Adequate management of resources is essential to keep everyone alive and to ensure their psychological comfort, which translates into higher efficiency.
In the game, players often meet villages inhabited by indigenous peoples, with whom they have to interact. Through conversation one can learn about the history of a given population and about interesting places to visit. Players also have the opportunity to tradeallowing them to buy the missing resources or exchange some goods for other, more unique ones.
Combat is another equally important element in Curious Expedition 2. Players have a wide range of opponents to deal with - from local animals to mystical beings (as befits a game inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos) and dinosaurs. Each member of the expedition wields a unique weapon.
Game modes
In addition to the single player mode, players have the opportunity to compete with other players in a multiplayer mode.
Technical aspects
When creatingCurious Expedition 2, the developers decided to modify the visuals in comparison to the game's predecessor. The classic pixel art has been replaced by high-quality, 2D, colourful visuals that follow a formula referring to book illustrations and comic books.
