Deal with the Devil is a first-person adventure game released on XONE, PC and PS4, combining a complex narrative with elements of survival horror. The game is the result of cooperation pf two developer teams from Cornwall - Antimatter Games and Round Table Games Studio. The first can boast the people responsible for the highly acclaimed Killing Floor and Red Orchestra/Rising Storm. The second team is led by Rich Barham, known for his collaboration with Riot Games and Blizzard Entertainment Rich Barham, and Tanya Krzywinska, who was classified in the first hundred of the most important women in the video game industry.

Story

The plot of the game was set in the turbulent 1920s, when most countries are trying to recover from the fall caused by the destruction of the great war and the raging Spanish flu epidemic. The protagonist of Deal with the Devil is a 30-year-old woman named Amelia, who, in this not very learning-friendly period, faces dark riddles from the distant past, forced to constantly balance between the light and dark sides of her nature.

Mechanics

As far as mechanics are concerned, we are dealing with a dark, narrative adventure game in the atmosphere of psychedelic horror, so during the game we can expect primarily visiting successive locations scattered all over the world, solving various logic puzzles and interactions with NPCs. However, the plot of the game develops in a non-linear way, and one of the key elements of the game are the difficult moral choices and constant balancing on the border of good and evil. In order to achieve her goal, Amelia can appeal to the darker side of her nature and ruthlessly use its character to acquire the necessary information (which in extreme cases may even result in her death), or try to make friends with other characters and acquire the necessary knowledge in a righteous way. Both paths lead basically to a similar solution, but give players the opportunity to choose their preferred option. The key to success in the game is to maintain an appropriate balance between the bad and good deeds of the heroine.

Technical aspects

In their work on the game, the creators drew inspiration from the best possible models, using elements of the work of such iconic writers as H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe or Stephen King. The result is a game that bears quite distinct traits of survival horror, but at the same time does not shock with cheap special effects and gore, focusing first and foremoest on the dark, psychedelic atmosphere. Released on XONE, PC and PS4, Deal with the Devil features high-quality graphics that fully exploit the capabilities of the advanced Unreal Engine 4 technology.
