Sons of the Forest is the second installment of a popular survival horror series originating from 2018. It was developed by the Endnight Games, the same studio as its predecessor.

Plot

In Sons of the Forest we play as a survivor of a helicopter crash, stranded in the middle of a vast forest. We must find our missing companions alongside a way out. The forest, unfortunately, is overrun by mutated creatures out for our blood.

Mechanics

The gameplay of Sons of the Forest is shown from the first-person perspective (FPP). The game features an open, freely traversible world. Aside from the dense forest, a river leading into picturesque waterfalls or a vast beach, we may also head into dark caves Since our predicament is quite dangerous, survival elements and an extensive crafting system play an important role.

In order to obtain food, we must first gather wood and create makeshift weapons. This resource, which is rather abundant, can also be used to create an impressive camp (a multi-floor compound surrounded by a palisade; smaller shelters get outclassed rather quickly, and a stretched out tarp soon stops being enough). As for weapons - though simple spears and knives are enough to kill non-aggressive animals (such as turtles), we need much more potent firepower to hold off mutants and delve into their territory. Firearms are uncommon, but we may acquire one if lucky enough. One should still be careful though, for even a stun gun or a high-caliber gun may not be enough against the sheer numbers of mutants. As if that wasn't enough, soon we'll end up facing even more twisted and powerful creatures, defeating which is much more challenging.
