So, we know the Japanese know how to make a successful game about killing monsters, but the Poles apparently also know a thing about the profession of a monster-killer. Even though the game's right below the podium, the fourth most-popular RPG in the world is a genre-defining achievement by CD Projekt RED. The universal, international acclaim of The Witcher 3 proves that. The studio from Warsaw created a legendary RPG, in which almost everything clicked: the unique atmosphere and flavor of the world, memorable characters, some sensational quests, audiovisuals, and masterful use of an established universe.

Pretty much everyone heard about The Witcher 3, including... Barack Obama. The game established CD Projekt RED as major-league RPG developer – a reputation that recently was damaged by game number six from this list. The Witcher has since served as benchmark in side-quest quality and world-buildingwitcheresque is now a desired adjective in the world of RPG. This title is definitely among the games of all times, such as Kingdom Hearts Fina Fantasy VII.
