Monster Hunter: World

Developer: Capcom

Year of release: 2018

Estimated number of copies sold: 18 million

Despite being quite exotic in many aspects, Japanese productions are doing great on the global market, as evidenced by the impressive success of another IP from the country: Monster Hunter: World. This time, we have more of an sword-and-action thing going on, as the game is focused on the title hunting for monsters, than it is on stuff like the plot, or moral choices. Players appreciated the wonderfully created, detailed, and living world, the high level of difficulty, and the combat system, along with mandatory crafting.

Monster Hunter has become the best-selling game in Capcom's history, cracking the first 5 million copies just three days after release. The game also contributed to a significant increase in sales of the PlayStation 4 itself. Further records were broken with the PC release, with the Iceborne DLC finding its way to over 9 million people. A next-gen follow-up is just a matter of time!
