The Scarlet Ruins – Darkest Dungeon. The best community-created story campaigns

- Core game: Darkest Dungeon
- Has the project evolved into a standalone title: No
Scarlet Ruins is one of the most complete mods for Darkest Dungeon (and these have already been made available in the Steam Workshop itself, almost 4000 of them). In addition to completely new quests, we also get some very interesting mechanics of scarlet habits, which are evolving and can be strengthened. The strongest side of the mod is its vibrant, suffocating atmosphere. The text, as in the case of the original game, is an addition to the audiovisual layer. This doesn't mean, however, that it's completely irrelevant.
The creators decided not to introduce a completely new region; the quests take place in locations well-known to fans of Darkest Dungeon: the Crypts. At the beginning, we have to visit the ruins of the Scarlet Academy. New, improved enemies and refreshed backgrounds await there.
In the modding community, "Scarlet Ruins" has become a benchmark of quality and content that each new author tries to match. The latter has long been one of the biggest problems of modders digging through the Darkest Dungeon code. However, Red Hook approached the problem very professionally, gradually improving the game so that it finally became one of the most user-friendly content on the web. May a similar future meet Darkest Dungeon 2.
Although Darkest Dungeon 2 was released last year, beta tests of another big mod to the original commenced not long ago. Vermintide offers a new region full of mutant rats. The opponents' projects already look great, and the work is still ongoing. Another noteworthy piece of content added to the game by fans is also the unfinished Black Reliquary – a mod that completely changes the way the game is played, and in addition offers an extensive story campaign. If that's not enough for you, check out Town Wars with its expressive main quest, and House of the Witch, where you will resurrect fallen heroes.
