Baldur's Gate: Reloaded – Neverwinter Nights 2. The best community-created story campaigns

- Core games: Neverwinter Nights 2 (engine), Baldur's Gate (story)
- Has the project evolved into a standalone title: No
Baldur's Gate has an extended edition prepared by Overhaul Games, but in the end, the idea of refreshing it met with a mixed reception from the fandom. The paid add-ons and the lack of changes to the mechanics were severely criticized. What was innovative in 1998 is not necessarily exciting today, after all. The story itself is the only element that stood the test of time, but how can you enjoy it without bouncing off the venerable mechanics?
Modders come to the rescue. A team of several dozen enthusiasts of the original game prepared a full conversion using the engine of Neverwinter Nights 2. Thanks to its capabilities, it was possible to transfer the graphics into a simple, but at least three-dimensional form, and modernize the combat system to some extent.
It's a pity that this mod didn't evolve into an independent production. I am certain that it would be received better than the decent attempt by Overhaul Games. Especially since each of the modders did their part of the non-profit project, and the effects of their work are not inferior to commercial ventures.
