Fallout: New California is a mod prepared with a panache equal to AAA positions. Hundreds of thousands of dialogue lines, a map similar in size to the one we got in the basic version of the game, several active factions, eight potential companions (including two robotic ones) and hours of gritty, original story campaign – this is the effect of many years of efforts by a group of fans trying to create something more than just a mod.
Personally, I consider Fallout: New California to be just another Fallout installment. Nothing more, nothing less. In all honesty, fan-written, fan-voiced dialogues often fit the post-apo vibe batter than Bethesda's rigid dialogue lines. However, this is, of course, a matter of taste. Objectively, we can say that the modification surely isn't another half-empty world waiting to be filled with content in the undefined future. Fallout: New California is not an alpha or beta project, it's a finished product (even if not monetized).
In a story full of twists and turns, you will lead the fate of an orphan from Vault 18 by making really difficult decisions. It's coming to the surface will coincide with the intensification of the conflict between the three ruling factions of the region. Which one you support depends only on you (I was most impressed by the Riders of Elsdragon, but then… you have to check it out for yourself).
