Signalis is a perfect example to support the thesis that games created in small development teams can outperform super productions with teams and budgets many times larger. The game surprises with its disturbing visuals, which can be augmented with activating CRT Mode, which emulates the feel of old monitors, and offers gameplay that doesn't do handholding.
The player starting his adventure in Signalis is neck-deep in trouble, having to solve puzzles prepared by the developers or die at the hands of enemies encountered here and there. The story is not learned through traditional narrative, but from notes scattered here and there that create the backbone of the plot. However, in order to understand the lore and events Signalis tells us about, good knowledge of English is definitely needed, as the story is conveyed through walls of text. A big advantage of the game is a variety of perspectives - sometimes we observe rooms in an isometric view, and other times we see the world from first person perspective.
