Signalis is a surival horror inspired by the science fiction genre and games such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. The game was developed by independent rose-engine studio.
Signalis is a sci-fi horror game, inspired by such titles as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. The game offers a classic gameplay model combined with a stylized graphic design that resembles games from the 1990s. An independent rose-engine studio is responsible for its development and release.
Plot
n Signalis we play the role of engineer Elster - Replika who after an emergency landing on an unknown, snowy planet is trying to find a missing member of her crew. During the journey, the Elster experiences a vision with memories that seem not to belong to her, and the line between sleep and reality becomes blurred.
Mechanics
Signalis is quite a classic survival horror. The heroine is observed from top-down perspective (however, the camera is very close, as a result of which it is sometimes more of a side-scroll view than a classic top-down one). In some situations (in some feature scenes and puzzles) the perspective changes to first person. The player's task is to travel through the locations and solve the puzzles - they require breaking codes, using fragments of radio transmissions and the acquired items.
The main goal of the game is to safely guide the heroine through the plot thread. We are disturbed by enemies resembling monsters pulled out of the nightmare - we have to avoid or eliminate them with the use of found weapons and tools (making sure we don't run out of ammunition of course).
Game modes
We can only play Signalis alone. The basis of the game is a feature campaign.
Technical aspects
Signalis offers an attractive graphic design that combines three-dimensional models with two-dimensional elements to create a single, consistent image. The graphics is maintained in a manga style and developed to resemble the survival horrors of the late 90s - the models are quite insignificant and pixels are quite clearly visible. The game was inspired by the science fiction genre and has an interesting atmosphere.

Inverse: 9 / 10 by Willa Rowe
Signalis is a masterful recreation of classic survival horror. Mechanically, it ticks every box that the genre requires. Yet this indie gem shines in how it evolves the formula, both mechanically and narratively for more modern audiences. Developer rose-engine pushed beyond the boundaries of a simple homage to create something that stands on its own as the best horror game of the year.
GamesRadar+: 3 / 5 by Jon Bailes
Signalis conjures a memorable retro-futuristic vibe with its art design, matched with a story that explores the terrifying extremes of sentient life. But its Resident Evil inspired systems feel overly mechanical and fail to produce tension, draining energy from a potentially chilling scenario.
Destructoid: 9.5 / 10 by Eric Van Allen
A hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won't cause massive damage.
