After spending a few hundred hours playing Monster Hunter: World, I was convinced that I would be sick of hunting giant beasts for a while. How wrong was I – Capcom refreshed the formula so successfully that I didn't feel I was playing the same thing again even for a moment. Bah! Unlike the aforementioned World, in Wings of Ruin there's huge was placed on the story, which is a great incentive for playing subsequent battles. The latter have also been altered.
Instead of real-time combat, this game offers turn-based. You still have to do a lot of planning and prepare well for the next hunt, but learning the attacks of each beast and reflexes aren't as essential as in the original. So, fans of Monster Hunter games will surely find everything they have come to love about the series, but served differently. Those unfamiliar with the series, on the other hand, get a nice chance to enter the fandom from a different background. The fact that Wings of Ruin is a bit shorter than World, is also a plus. You also don't have to grind as much, though without that, it wouldn't be Monster Hunter.
Play Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, if:
- You prefer turn-based combat;
- You want to see what the Monster Hunter series is all about;
- Grind makes you happy.
