  1. Release Date: September 2020
  2. Genre: wrestling
  3. Platforms: PC, PS4, XOne, Switch

After the extremely unsuccessful WWE 2K20, the publisher decided to discontinue the annual release cycle and revamp the formula. In the absence of WWE 2K21 in 2020, wrestling fans were supposed to get a much lighter Battlegrounds spin-off, opting for a cartoonish setting and very relative realism. The change in convention has not been accompanied, unfortunately, by greater improvements in quality.

While the basic mechanics of WWE 2K Battlegrounds turned out OK, the game was killed by hiding much of the content behind a hard wall of micropayments and repetitive grind. The high price was also completely incompatible with the obvious budget constraints of the game, evident at every step, whether in the visual layer or the repertoire of game modes. On Switch, an additional problem proved to be that progress was only recorded online, which butchered the idea of mobile play away from home.
