All in all, Reforged is not a bad game – having one of the best RTS games in the entire history of the genre as its foundation, it can easily provide dozens, maybe hundreds of hours of quality entertainment. The problem in this case was the envelope of the remaster's creation and its final, truncated form. Player disappointment translated into this game receiving the record lowest player rating in the entire history of Metacritic shortly after release. Twelve months later, rating of Warcraft 3: Reforged is not much higher.
The reason for such strong reactions were mainly unfulfilled promises – when announcing the project in 2018, Blizzard spread a vision of an almost full-fledged remake: revamped story campaigns, new cutscenes, a huge interface facelift. All these assurances were gradually withdrawn, until what remained was a completely ordinary, basic remaster, in some respects done poorly. Not only does it not offer many of the promised new features, but also even devoid of original elements, such as the clan system and the ability to play matches on your own maps. There has also been controversy over the new user license, impacting mod creators directly and taking away any rights to their own work.
