Gears Tactics

One of the biggest positive surprises this year was certainly Gears Tactics. Well, who would have thunk: one of flagship action games of Xboxs got a strategy spin-off that not only wasn't a flop: it's a genuinely riveting experience that's both complex and accessible.

You could be forgotten for not seeing this one coming. The first materials made the game look like a typical Microsoft game to fill in the gaps in the calendar before the big games. .

Meanwhile, Gears Tactics is a surprisingly good strategy, with thoughtful character development, engaging campaign and well-designed gameplay. The creators, on the one hand, hail to the famous XCOM series, and on the other, they refreshed this formula, enriching it with a pinch of additional dynamics and a few interesting ideas. And you know what? It worked like a charm.

Incidentally, there's clearly a certain intention in Microsoft's actions, as their second, key shooter IP – Halo – has also received its own strategic sub-series Halo Wars. If the effects of this strategy will be as successful as Gears Tactics, fans of strategy will have another hit on their hands.
