Command & Conquer Remastered Description
Command & Conquer - Remastered is a remastered version of the classic strategy, which was one of the first representatives of the RTS genre. The original Command & Conquer was released in 1995 and its developer was the legendary and no longer existing Westwood studio. The title was the first entry in the Command & Conquer series, and its ideas and technical solutions were copied in the following years by countless strategy games.
The remaster was developed by Petroglyph Games studio, one of the few developers in the industry still specializing in classic RTS. The studio's achievements include such games as Star Wars: Empire at War, Grey Goo and 8-bit Armies. The game was under the care of key creators of Command & Conquer, who moved from Westwood Games to Petroglyph years ago. The project was led by Joe Bostic, the father of the series and the lead programmist of the original, Steve Tall, a programist of Red Alert, as well as Ted Morris, the first fan community manager. They were also accompanied by Frank Klepacki, a sound producer and a composer of the series soundtrack who worked on it for many years.
Plot
In 1995, a meteorite containing an unknown substance falls near the Tiber River. Due to some unique properties, it quickly gains high value in global markets. The mysterious Brotherhood of Nod, led by Kane, the savior of civilization, gains half of the material in a short time. The group is growing in strength. When Europe is shaken by further terrorist attacks planned by Nod, the United Nations Security Council authorizes military intervention by the Global Defense Initiative. An armed conflict breaks out, the outcome of which depends on the fate of the whole world. The developers of the game prepared two separate storyline paths, presenting the events from the perspective of both sides.
Mechanics
Command & Conquer - Remastered is a real-time strategy that allows you to become a military commander of a selected party of the conflict and complete subsequent missions. Most of them are based on a specific scheme, according to which players must build up their base, give orders to subordinate units and collect the materials needed for further development, in order to eventually take over or destroy the camp of the enemy faction. Occasionally, the rules get modified, forcing the player to act with a limited number of units or to perform a specific goal, such as defending a point.
The available sides of the conflict differ in units. Nod focuses on quantity and uses prototype vehicles, while GDI throws well-equipped and robust troops into combat. These differences influence the playstyle, motivating players to use different strategies. It is worth mentioning that the remaster has the full content of The Covert Operations expansion from 1996, offering several new missions and maps.
Technical aspects
Command & Conquer - Remastered has a fully refreshed audiovisual setting that preserves the appearance and atmosphere of the original. Units and environment were fully reconstructed using original two-dimensional sprites and designs. The game supports modern screen resolutions, including 4K.
