What if Duke Nukem was a woman? If he were, she would certainly be Shelly Harrison, the protagonist of Ion Fury (previously known as Ion Maiden). The people responsible for this production have modernized the engine of the classic Duke Nukem 3D with modern PCs in mind. Thanks to them, Duke is back - in a sense. The gameplay is reminiscent of that title - our hero massacres hordes of cybersoldiers in the homely-looking locations of a futuristic metropolis.
However, an interesting swap has taken place. We assume the role of a female warrior mercenary, and our opponent is the diabolical Dr. Jadus Heskel, voiced by actor Jon St. John, the original Duke himself. Everything else remained the same. Ion Fury plays out exactly as Duke 3D – it's dynamic, bloody and, above all, fun and inventive. Moving through the levels, you will find a lot of interactive elements. Why the double title? The famous band Iron Maiden have sued the creators in court for having too much resemblance to their trademark. The publisher, 3D Realms, agreed to change the name.
