Doom Eternal. New shooters that embody the spirit of the 90s

Doom Eternal

  1. Release date: March 2020
  2. Developer: id Software
  3. Platforms: PC Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch (announced)

Last, but not least. Without id Software and Doom this list would not exist. The recently released Doom Eternal is in a way a bridge between the old and the new. In many ways, it is played the same as the classic Doom II: Hell on Earth. The gameplay offers fast pace fun-filled demon slaughter, while the number of references to the original is a real tearjerker. It's just an old Doom with sensational graphics.

However, the creators added some novelties - a more detailed plot, cut-scenes, and new abilities with which we explore the maps. On the one hand, they distanced themselves from the original formula; on the other, they made the 2016 game's direct sequel seem much bigger and more elaborate. As a result, it doesn't give us a sense of stagnation or repeats already seen gameplay patterns. Doom Eternal is a two-in-one game. It matches the standards of contemporary productions, but offers the atmosphere and simplicity of the 90's original.
