Tibia is another quirky phenomenon on this list, although its heydays are pretty much behind it. It's a game that often evoked extreme emotions, and also caused controversy among concerned parents and teachers. Well, that's how it is with games, especially when it comes to MMORPGs – they can be very divisive. The work of German studio CipSoft has been doing it since 1997, and it's peak of popularity was around 2007.
In the past, new players started their adventure on the island of Rookgaard. This was a kind of tutorial, during which we got acquainted with the basics of the game, although we could not assess many things at this stage – even the profession. This changed with Dawnport – a new island for newbies, where you could check every profession or familiarize yourself with the principles of PvP. It was important to leave it at the latest by 20th level of experience.
The longest-playing fans were not satisfied with the changes – if only because of the ubiquitous bots. Increased accessibility also slightly "spoiled the whole experience," as the adventure was no longer as risky and at the same time exciting. However, it cannot be denied that Dawnport is known by every Tibia player – and there are still a lot of them around the world.
