Weapons | Listings Duke Nukem Forever Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Unlike the previous game, in Duke Nukem Forever you can only carry two weapons which you can change at any time. The only exception are explosives (bombs and mines) which are a separate category and you can have them at any time .
Hand to hand fighting (fists, gunstocks)
Not much to add here - fists are an effective weapon, requiring fighting at close range. The other is the case with gun butts which you can use to finish off an enemy. |
M1911 pistol
Colt M1911 is a gold-plated and engraved Duke's favourite. It's a very effective weapon at all ranges. Additionally headshots from this weapon deal four times the normal damage and melee attacks are two times faster than with other weapons. There's also a variant of this weapon used by EDF, but they only differ in appearance. |
Shotgun
A classic shotgun well-known from the previous game. Most effective at close range, as the scatter effect increases with distance. Reloaded one bullet at a time and can shoot with even one bullet loaded. |
Ripper
Also a weapon known form the previous game. Three-barrel gun which drains the clip quickly and is very effective against big groups of enemies. |
Devastator
The most powerful weapon in the game with a great damage per second ratio. Each barrel shoots a highly accurate rocket which however gets lower with distance. Individual rockets are weaker than the ones fired from a RPG, but the Devastator's speed makes up for it. |
Shrink Ray
An energy shot fired from this weapon shrinks enemies, additionally weakening their weapons 10 times. Shrinked enemies can be easily trampled - just look down and step onto them. |
RPG
The RPG can work in two modes. In the first, rockets fly straight towards where they were aimed at. However if you keep the cursor on an enemy, the rocket will lock on the target and follow it. |
Pipe Bomb
Remotely detonated pipe bomb. Unlike the other weapons, you can always have it beside you, even if you already have two other weapons. After throwing the bomb you can detonate it or throw more to detonate them all at once. |
Laser Tripbomb
Laser mines, just like the pipe bombs, can be in your inventory even if you have a set of weapons. It can be attached to any surface (including living opponents), therefore creating traps. You can also detonate it by shooting it or throwing an item into the laser beam. |
Freeze Ray
This exotic weapon emits a beam that freezes enemies. The beam has a short range, so anything further than around 10 metres won't be frozen. In return, the energy regenerates itself. You can't use the Freeze Ray while underwater, or you will freeze Duke. |
Railgun
A truly deadly weapon in proper hands. Its slow, but can kill with one bullet which additionally penetrates walls, obstacles and enemies. The Railgun is also equipped with a strong sight, also you can use it as a sniper rifle. An accurate shot in the head will cause it to swell and explode. |
Enforcer Gun
This deadly toy is the basic equipment of Assault Enforcers. Kill one of them and you will be able to make use of this weapon yourself, shooting three guided missiles with each shot. This weapon is completely useless at longer range, as if the rockets won't find a target quickly, they will fly in random directions. |
AT Laser
A standard equipment of alien troopers. Each time you press the trigger, three laser beams are fired and then the gun needs some time to reload. It's the first gun (apart from fists) that you will be able to use in the game (not including the Devastator during the prologue). |
AT Captain Laser
Simply put, this gun can be called a laser minigun. Just like guns of this type, it has moving barrels that need to reach a certain speed before being able to shoot. A good weapon on short or medium range or against slow enemies. |
