Last update: 08 March 2021
On this page of the Destruction AllStars guide, you will find the most important information about the Gridfall Mode. You will learn how to win matches in the Gridfall Mode and what are the good techniques to increase your chances of winning.
Gridfall mode - general rules
In Gridfall mode, players fight for survival. You don't get any points here – all that matters is to be the last player on the arena. By default, getting eliminated once or falling off the arena ends the match with a loss.
When more than one player manages to survive until the end, the game also takes into account the number of lives/respawns that the survivors have - the player who has the most wins. If all the survivors have the same number of lives, the match ends with a tie.
The Gridfall arenas collapse gradually, thus creating larger gaps. Fragments of the floor, which will soon fall off, are marked in yellow. If you are standing on such a platform, react quickly to avoid falling into the abyss.
As more and more platforms fall down, the area gets narrower which increases the level of challenge – the players have less room for maneuver meaning you will have to fight them more frequently.
Gridfall mode - how to win matches?
Your choice of a hero for the Gridfall mode is not very important. You should be able to win with the majority of the heroes – avoiding elimination is more important than the skills or Hero Vehicles. For example, you can choose Fuego or Bluefang - these Stars have good and very durable Hero Vehicles.
At the beginning of each match, we advise you to collect shards on the platforms. Pay attention to the icons warning of a potential collision with a car – dodge or jump to avoid them. Let some competitors eliminate each other – you should focus on collecting enough shards to summon your Hero Vehicle.
Sooner or later, you will start using a vehicle (preferably unique to your hero). Avoid driving too close to the chasm and attacking enemies near the edge. In both cases, it is very easy to suddenly fall into the abyss or get pushed by someone.
If you see that you are about to fall into the abyss, use ejecting. If you manage to land on a stable platform or at least grab its edge, you will avoid getting eliminated or losing a life.
In Gridfall mode, you can gain extra lives by attacking and eliminating opponents. You don't have to do this to win, but it can help you if, for example, you are eliminated in the final or when several players finish the match and the game has to count the number of their lives.
A good tactic is to drive in circles around the arena while keeping a proper distance from the chasm. Staying on the move will reduce the chances that someone will suddenly attack you. You will be able to "wait" for some rivals to eliminate themselves. Of course, if there is a good opportunity to attack someone – take it.
React to signals about falling platforms. If the game lasts a very long time, the lack of platforms can seriously limit your mobility. You can get out of the car and hide on the upper shelves.
In the final match, beware of those players who are driving a Hero Vehicle. The most dangerous opponent may be Ratu and her Barong Hero Vehicle. Try to eliminate such a player earlier or stay away from them so that when the countdown starts, you won't be in Barong's range.
If you are facing someone 1vs1, try to eliminate the opponent using your vehicle. We do not recommend using melee attacks – you can easily be hit (especially if the opponent uses their Breaker) and thrown out of the arena.
