The Spear of Leonidas is a powerful artifact used in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Its main use is to kill enemies but the Spear is also necessary in unlocking some of the more powerful abilities. This page contains information on how to upgrade the Spear of Leonidas and what profits do you get from this process.
The process of upgrading the Spear of Leonidas
The Spear of Leonidas starts at level 1 and it doesn't level up along with your character.
The first opportunity to level up the Spear happens during the third chapter when you visit Andros island - this is part of Memories Awoken main quest. There, you can find the Ancient Forge of Hephaistos.
The Spear of Leonidas reaches level 2 automatically when you visit this place for the first time. The game also unlocks Upgrade the Spear quest.
Mysterious Fragments are necessary in the process of upgrading the Spear. These unique items are left by defeated Cultists of Kosmos. Each killed Cultist drops one Mysterious Fragment.
Take your few Mysterious Fragments back to the Ancient Forge of Hephaistos. Place the Spear into the monolith to level it up. Every level requires more Mysterious Fragments.

Pros of upgrading the Spear of Leonidas
The main purpose to upgrade the Spear of Leonidas is to upgrade your main character. Thanks to that you can replenish more health points by using active abilities. Also, every Spear level adds a new segment to the adrenaline bar. Thanks to that you can collect more adrenaline which is useful for challenging fights.
It is important to know that upgrading the Spear of Leonidas unlocks access to new high-level abilities:
- Upgrade your Spear to level 2 if you want to purchase level 2 abilities. The picture above shows an example of one of these abilities. The second level of Spartan Kick deals 200% of Warrior damage (instead of 160%).
- Upgrade your Spear to level 5 if you want to purchase level 3 abilities.
The maximum level of your Spear is 6. Besides getting more stat bonuses, you also unlock Legacy Restored trophy/achievement.
