Xenoblade 3 has 25 character classes. In our guide , you will find descriptions of all character classes, as well as recommended accessories and gems. We explain how to unlock new character classes , how to make them available for the entire team, and how to increase the rank cap to 20.

General information

The character class change will be unlocked after completing The Hillside Hulk quest in chapter 2 of the game. Each unlocked class will have a rank cap of 10.To increase the rank limit to 20, you need to complete the relevant task in the game.

All unlocked Arts (except Combat Arts) can be assigned to any class. Thanks to this, you will create unique combinations tailored to your needs.

Flash Fencer has attack rank S, defense and health D, support A. This means that his strongest abilities are attack and support. The top right corner shows Mio's compliance rank for that class.

Each character class has rank information:

1. Attack,
2. Defense,
3. Health points,
4. Support.

To better match your character to the appropriate class, check the overall rank marked in the top right corner of the class description window.

The selected character class on the right is locked. The character class on the left has now been unlocked and is available to one of the characters in your party.

You will have access to 6 character classes early in the game. You can unlock new classes with Hero quests. When a Hero joins you, one of your party members will immediately unlock their character class. If you want the rest of your team to unlock this character class, you'll need to build an affinity with it. You will achieve this by fighting alongside the person using this class. The more people use this class in battle, the faster the affinity will grow.

Swordfighter

Swordfighter is Noah's starting class. This class's abilities focus on attacking a single enemy.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Side Story: Noah, available automatically in Chapter 7.
3. Best Combat Arts: Sword Strike, Edge Thrust, Shadow Eye.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Victor Gauntlet, Carbon Gloves.
5. Recommended Gems: Accurate Grace, Steelcleaver, Disperse Bloodlust.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Mio, Sena.

Zephyr

Zephyr is the starting class of Mio. He is great at dodging attacks, drawing the attention of enemies to himself.

1. Role: Defender.
2. Quest that increases the rank limit: Side Story: Mio , available automatically in Chapter 6.
3. Best Combat Arts: Butterfly Blade, Air Fang. Speed Demon.
4. Recommended accessories: Signet Ring, Metal Foot Protector, Beastfang Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Steady Striker, Ironclad, Tailwind.
6. Recommended characters: Mio, Eunie, Sena.

Medic Gunner

Medic Gunner is the starting class for Eunie . It's good support, restoring the health of the entire team while remaining at a safe distance from the enemy.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Side Story: Eunie, available in Chapter 5 in City.
3. Best Combat Arts: Myopic Screen, Group Heal, Power Ring.
4. Recommended accessories: Affection Ring, Glowing Medal, Immaculate Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Swelling Blessing, Lifebearer, Disperse Bloodlust.
6. Recommended characters: Eunie, Taion.

Tactician

Tactician is Taion's starting class. They specialize in providing buffs to allies and debuff the enemies.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Side Story: Taion, available in Chapter 6 of Agnus Castle.
3. Best Combat Arts: Overfall, Stormy Skies, Avenging Eagle.
4. Recommended accessories: Immaculate Necklace, Affection Ring, Circlet of Intellect.
5. Recommended Gems: Swelling Scourge Refined Incantion, Disperse Bloodlust.

Heavy Guard

Heavy Guard is Lanza's starting class. They use a huge sword that is perfect for defending allies. They feature extremely strong defense.

1. Role: Defender.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Side Story: Lanz, available in Chapter 5 of Great Sword's Base.
3. Best Combat Arts: Bull Rush, Crash Out, Solid Stance.
4. Recommended accessories: Solid Weak Guard, Titanium Temple Guard, Dragonfang Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Steel Protection, Brimming Spirit, Ironclad.
6. Recommended characters: Lanz, Sena.

Ogre

Ogre is Sena's starting class. The Great Hammer delivers crushing and devastating blows.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Side Story: Sena, available in Chapter 7 in City.
3. Best Combat Arts: Big Impact, Hammerhead, Maximum Voltage.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Assault Stone, White Wraps.

Flash Fencer

The Flash Fencer class will be unlocked when Ethel joins your party. Quest No Want of Courage related to this character will be unlocked automatically during chapter 3.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Rank Up: Bring Ethel to the Colony Omega in Chapter 7.
3. Best Combat Arts: Cross Impact, Null Slash, Revolution Edge.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Adamantine Gauntlet, Optical Headband.
5. Recommended Gems: Empowered Combo, Disperse Bloodlist, Analyze Weakness.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Sena.

War Medic

You will unlock the War Medic class when Valdi joins your team. You will get the quest The Kind Right Hand automatically during chapter 3.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: I'm a Mechanic, available in Chapter 6. Before receiving the quest, you will need to deliver several item sets for Rapapa in Colony 30.
3. Best Combat Arts: Multi Blast, Advanced Cooldown, Cure Bullet.
4. Recommended accessories: Long-Range Memory, Friendship Ring, Harvest Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Lifebearer, Swelling Blessing, Refined Blessing.
6. Recommended characters: Eunie, Taion, Lanz.

Guardian Commander

You will unlock the Guardian Commander class when Zeon joins your team. Go back to Colony 9 in Chapter 3 and accept the Where the Heart is quest.

1. Role: Defender.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Reasons to Evolve, available in Colony 9 Chapter 5 with Zeon on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Shield Bash, Noble Taunt, Imperial Sword.
4. Recommended accessories: Beastfang Necklace, Iron Temple Guard, Solid Weak Guard.
5. Recommended Gems: Brimming Spirit, Steel Protection, Ironclad.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Lanz, Sena.

Thaumaturge

You will unlock the Thaumaturge class when Teach joins your party. You will get the Going Beyond Power quest automatically during chapter 3.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest to Increase the Rank Cap: Shadow of Enmity in Colony Gamma, available in Chapter 6 with Teach on your team. The quest will be available after completing several orders from the local notice board.
3. Best Combat Arts: Rank Splitter, Spearpoint Thrust, Leaping Current.
4. Recommended accessories: Affection Ring, Immaculate Necklace, Star Anklets.
5. Recommended Gems: Lifebearer, Swelling Blessing, Disperse Bloodlust.
6. Recommended characters: Mio, Taion.

Yumsmith

The Yumsmith class will be unlocked when Riku and Manana join your party. Quest A Nopon's Counsel will be accepted automatically as you progress through chapter 3.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Culinary Reportoire, available at Camp Inlet in the Erythia Sea region as you progress through Chapter 6. Riku and Manana must be on your team for this quest to be unlocked.
3. Best Combat Arts: Extended Slash, Flashback, Energy Grenade.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Hellfire Amulet, Rainbow Gloves.
5. Recommended Gems: Steelcleaver, Swelling Scourge, Refined Incantation.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Sena.

Full Metal Jaguar

The Full Metal Jaguar class will be unlocked when Gray joins your team. Quest A Gray Matter will be available in Chapter 3 once you have acquired the Field Skill Wall Climbing. The quest marker can be found near Kamos Guidepost in the Aetia region.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Payback for Treason, available in Chapter 5 in City.
3. Best Combat Arts: Demolition, Dead Set, Quickdraw.
4. Recommended accessories: Hero Gloves, Silver Necklace, Steam Belt.
5. Recommended Gems: Accurate Grace, Disperse Bloodlust, Steady Striker.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Tion, Eunie.

Strategos

The Strategos class will be unlocked when Isurd joins your team. Quest Unwavering Resolve will be available in the 4th chapter of the game, Colony Lambda.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Effervescent Heart, available in Colony Lambda Chapter 6 with Isurd on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Mirror Trap, Moondog, Earth Bind.
4. Recommended accessories: Affection Ring, Immaculate Necklace, Gust Bracelet.
5. Recommended Gems: Swelling Blessing, Disperse Bloodlust, Swelling Scourge.
6. Recommended characters: Taion, Eunie.

Stalker

The Stalker class will be unlocked when Juniper joins your team. Quest Natural Selection will be available automatically in Chapter 4 of the game.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Survivors, available in Colony Tau in Chapter 6 with Juniper on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Night Hunt, Driving Arrow, Rapid Shot.
4. Recommended accessories: Ice Headband, Long-Range Memory, Herald's Kneeguard.
5. Recommended Gems: Tailwind, Analyze Weakness, Steelcleaver.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Mio.

Lone Exile

You will unlock the Lone Exile class when Asher joins your team. The Wrath of Ashera quest will be available in Chapter 4 in Keves Castle.

1. Role: Defender.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: A Deep-Seated Scar, available in Chapter 7 in Old Kana Battlefield in the Fornis region, with Ashera on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Demon Slayer, Gale Slash, Jaws of Death.
4. Recommended accessories: Heavy Weak Guard, Iron Temple Guard, Lazure Vambraces.
5. Recommended Gems: Ultimate Counter, Brimming Spirit, Ironclad.
6. Recommended characters: Lanz, Sena, Eunie.

Incursor

You will unlock the Incursor class when Alexandria joins your team. You will meet Alex for the first time near Colony 4. The Her Reasons quest will be available in Chapter 3 in Colony Iota, located in the western part of the Fornis region.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Inescapable Past, available in Chapter 5 of Colony Iota, with Alexandria on your team. To unlock the quest you will have to increase the level of Affinity associated with this colony.
3. Best Combat Arts: Glitter Stream, Sidewinder, Aerial Slash.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Soldier Ring, Ice Headband.
5. Featured Gems: Steady Striker, Disperse Bloodlust, Analyze Weakness.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Sena, Taion.

Lost Vanguard

You will unlock the Lost Vanguard class when Monica joins your team. The Vandham's Heir quest will be available in Chapter 5 in City.

1. Role: Defender.
2. Quest to increase the rank cap: Promise to the Future, available in Chapter 7 in City, with Monica on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Shockwave, Taunt Pulse, Mighty Beat.
4. Recommended accessories: Iron Temple Guard, Lazure Vambraces, Heavy Weak Guard.
5. Recommended Gems: Ultimate Counter, Brimming Spirit, Ironclad.
6. Recommended characters: Lanz, Sena, Eunie.

Signifer

You will unlock the Signifer class when Fiona joins your team. The Transparent Dreams quest will be available in Chapter 5 in the eastern part of the Erythia Sea region.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: A Farewell Reset, available in Chapter 6 in Colony Mu when Fiona is on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Resonant Flag, Heal Harmony, Spirited Charge.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Necklace, Harvest Necklace, Affection Ring.
5. Recommended Gems: Swelling Blessing, Refined Blessing, Steady Striker.
6. Recommended characters: Mio, Eunie, Lanz, Sena.

Soulhacker

When Triton joins your team, you'll unlock the Soulhacker class. The Doing it My Way quest will be available in Chapter 5 in the eastern part of Erythia Sea.

1. Quest to increase the rank limit: My Memories, available after increasing the level of Affinity in Colony 15 and cooking any food while Triton is on your team.
2. Recommended characters: all.

The Soulhacker class is not assigned to one role, which is why each character is suitable for that class. Soulhacker has 6 different class roles. After selecting a role, you have to choose up to 3 skills and 6 Arts.

To unlock more Arts, you need to hunt unique monsters (i.e. those marked with a blue icon next to their name). If you want to check the list of all skills, press Y on the when selecting the class.

Martial Artist

The Martial Artist class will be unlocked when Ghondor joins your team in Chapter 6.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Knowing Your Family, available in Castle Agnus after completing Side Story: Noah in Chapter 6. Ghondor must be on your team for the quest to be activated.
3. Best Combat Arts: Detonating Hit, Focus, Jackal Claw.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Optical Headband, Strung Amber.
5. Recommended Gems: Steady Striker, Steelcleaver, Empowered Combo.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Eunie.

Troubadour

The Troubadour class will be unlocked when Miyabi joins your team in Chapter 6.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Happiness, available in Chapter 7 in City, with Miyabi on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Autumn Rain, Way Home, Ring o' Roses.
4. Recommended accessories: Affection Necklace, Star Anklets, Silver Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Refined Blessing, Swelling Blessing, Lifesaving Expertise.
6. Recommended characters: Eunie, Mio.

Seraph

When Cammuravi joins your team, you will unlock the Seraph class. The quest A Twist of Fate will be available in Chapter 6 in Colony Omega, after completing Side Story: Mio.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Increasing the rank cap: in Chapter 7 visit the Lab in Colony Omega with Ethel on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Inferno Dance, Leveling Fire, Dragon's Snarl.
4. Recommended accessories: Wind Bracelet, Repulsor Cuffs, Violet Stone.
5. Recommended Gems: Steelcleaver, Accurate Grace, Disperse Bloodlust.
6. Recommended characters: Noah, Taion.

Machine Assassin

The Machine Assassin class will be unlocked when Segiri joins the team. The quest Inhumanity will be available after completing the Severed Connection quest in Chapter 6.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: Invisible Bond, available after completing several Colony 0 quests with Segiri on your team.
3. Best Combat Arts: Fatal Bite, Terror Onslaught, Havoc Slayer.
4. Recommended accessories: Bronze Gauntlet, Repulsor Cuffs, Wind Bracelet.
5. Recommended Gems: Steelcleaver, Swelling Scourge, Refined Incantation.
6. Recommended characters: Sena, Eunie.

Lifesage

You will unlock the Lifesage class when Nia joins your team. After completing the storyline, visit the Hall of the Serene in the Aetia region.

1. Role: Healer.
2. Quest increasing the rank limit: Grasping My Future, available after visiting 4 locations (Memorial Hall in City, Death's Door in Agnus Castle, Saffronia Tree in the Fornis region, Tower Camp in the Pentelas region) and discussing Nia's Memories in the Rest Spot.
3. Best Combat Arts: Redeeming Bloom, Redemption, Saber Slash.
4. Recommended accessories: Affection Ring, Carbon Gloves, Affection Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Lifebearer, Disperse Bloodlust, Doublestrike.
6. Recommended characters: Mio, Eunie, Lanz.

Royal Summoner

You will unlock the Royal Summoner class when Melia joins your team. Visit Keves Castle 1F after completing the storyline.

1. Role: Attacker.
2. Quest that increases the rank cap: From Atop Her Throne, available when you bring Melia to the Throne Room in Keves Castle.
3. Best Combat Arts: Starfall, Elemental Discharge, Summon Element.
4. Recommended accessories: Silver Belt, Wind Bracelet, Gold Necklace.
5. Recommended Gems: Steelcleaver, Disperse Bloodlust, Accurate Grace.
